REAR WHEEL NOT TOUCHING THE GROUND

I've turned the top link until it's almost out of thread.

My interpretation:

Scrappy does not need a new Top Link.

He has his original Top Link adjustment shortened, when it should be the opposite, longer.

You only need a top link to lift. You can mow open areas fine with no top link. A length of chain a bit longer than your top link will work fine. A longer top link will help as well. I think you should be able to find one for less than $35.

I had been mowing with a regular top link for years until one day when mowing across a shallow ditch the rear wheels dropped into the ditch and the brush hog was still on the ground on the other side. My rear wheels were suspended in the ditch but not touching. I came to a dead stop and couldn't move. Luckily I was close to home and had to get my truck to pull the tractor out of the ditch.

That afternoon I went to the hardware store and bought a short length of 3/8" chain, slip hook and a clevis. Been using that setup ever since when brush hogging or with the finish mower without any problems. That was 30 years ago. I just put together a new top link chain last year, not because it was worn out but because it was rusted pretty bad and I was fixing things up a little bit.

This is intended for jeff9366 for the other gentlemen who offered their suggestion and thought on my problem I thank you very much. Jeff9366, I will admit I am not a farm equipment knowledgeable person. I donot know the technical name or term for a specific part on a tractor. I had a problem I tried to work out on my own but with limited success so I came to where I thought help would be given without question, which it was but, for some reason you have decided to tare into me with criticism of the belittlement base. I did not come here to be criticized or belittled, I came here for "help", as I thought this site was for that purpose to help the person who needed it and offer help if you have any. So to avoid this criticism I will remove my profile and not return to this site again.
For everyone who offered your thoughts without question I thank you.

ScrapGuy I apologize For Jeff. Most of the people on here are normal. You are not alone in asking questions. Few people know everything. I ran a bush hog for 30+ years before I had even heard of check chains for the lift arms.

2458n: Apologize for yourself, for not offering any useful content, no need to apologize for me. My germane suggestions and LINKS required sixty times the analysis and effort to create, relative to your cheap shot comments above.

How Scrappy feels about my suggestions is up to him. Scrappy put minimal effort in his posts; apparently never went back out to his tractor to employ the suggestions offered, demonstrated minimal effort to learn and apply.

I need to be more selective before devoting time to 'poor, pitiable, me' threads authored by the uncommitted, or exit sooner.

Life is short.

Scrapy, were you able to get your cutter adjusted correctly?
