On my L3901 the manual touches on the ability to chance the width of the rear tire somehow, but they don't explain how to do it very well. It like to go the widest position I can. Can someone enlighten me. Is the spacers I have to buy or is it the position the tire goes on the lug nut or do I flip the tires around or what. My property is very hilly so this would really help having a wider stance in the rear.

Most are 3 position. The domed center section is removable and reversible. Reversing only the center moves you out to the middle setting. Where the domed center mounts into the outer ring is offset also and reversing the outer rings gets you to the widest setting. When reversing the outer ring, you need to switch which side of the tractor they are on. Right goes to the left and left goes to the right. This is done to keep the tread pattern on the tires facing the proper direction.

If yours are currently at the most narrow, the easiest thing to do is take the wheels and rims off the tractor keeping the centers attached to the wheels, and switch the entire assemblies from left to right and right to left, making sure you keep the tread pattern turning the same direction. This will also put your valves for filling/checking the tires facing in under the tractor.

Wow - I'm glad Sysop explained that tire rotation/swap. The only thing I would add is - remember the rear tires will be big & fairly heavy. If the rears are filled - I would STRONGLY suggest having a second person help with this swap. If for no other reason - to help get the tire off when if falls on you. Believe me - if they are filled - they are really heavy and can come over on you in a flash.

Thank you you explained that really well. As luck would have it my tires have no ballast in them yet so I'll move them with a floor jack. Is there any real down side to widening the stance other than it makes the tractor wider

vtwinhd, do you have ag tires (R1)? If you have a photo that you can post, might help. If you have the industrial (R4) tires or turf tires (I think) you are out of luck and need to buy wheel spacer that go between the wheel and the tractor. (~$380+/-)

Those are R4, industrial, tires. For a wider stance, you'll have to buy spacers. The Grand "L" have R4 rims that are adjustable but not the basic "economy" tractors. You can look up some of those threads... spacers usually tied with tire chains.

Yours should be the same as L3200 / L3800

Your dealer should be able to buy kubota ones, too.

I wonder why the manual mentions it then. I'll look it up and post what they say.

Ag tires. R1, were the standard tire for these models and R4 and turf tires were extra $$ to upgrade (I don't think this is the case now, but I'm not sure). So the manual was written up with the standard tires in mind.

That's weird. I didn't pay extra for the tires
