Another option for the QDs I'm not too happy with:

Would it work to remove the last 4-6" of the gray plastic and mount the valve there and upright? You said that it is wider than the plastic, but might it work there with the QDs pointing backward?
You could have the QDs for valves 1 and 3 pointing straight out and have 2 and 4 angled (with 22.5 degree elbows?) up and down enough to clear the QDs next to them.

What do you mean by upright?

The valve will NOT fit in the area 90 degrees to the way in the pic I posted. It is simply too wide.

The QDs will not fit next to each other on the valve stack, they are too wide.

What MIGHT work would be to have the valve the way it is in the last position and then have the QDs sticking straight back...but I don't know how that would work. The rear most valve would have to have 90s with the QDs mounted rigid and the others maybe flex?

I don't know. For some reason, I stare at pictures online of other installs and what they always do just doesn't seem like it will work on my machine and I can't put my finger on why.

Brian said he's going to send me some fittings and other components to really start playing with. I'm leaning strongly on this location being the final resting spot of the valves:

The next chance I get I'm going to pull the backhoe and see if I can rig the QDs in this area neatly:

Kubota gets the backhoe QDs in the same area on the right side and they work great there, I don't see a reason my QDs won't work nicely there on the left side.

One other option I just thought of would be rotate the valves 90 in the same location and have the handles face forward. Then hose routing would be possible to put the QD bank up on the right ROPS.
