Just used my new Rhino 42 inch rotary mower on my BX22, also the first time I removed the backhoe! Removing the backhoe was easier than expected, hopefully it will go back on just as well.

Used the mower to cut a path through about 2 acres of woods on my property, did a great job, will go back a couple more times but a fun project so far.

My question, didn't get the book with the mower but one thing I noticed is a short "pause" before the pto/blade starts turning after I engage the drive. Gives a pretty good jerk as well. Is this normal? Hope to pick up the manual this weekend but thought it might be worth asking here.

Thanks to all who post and answer the many newbie questions like mine, this is a great resource!

The jerk you feel is just the blades extending out from the blade holder. A short pause on that model is normal.

I hope you are engaging and disengaging the PTO at idle speed, THEN moving up to speed. I don't know about your particular model, but many newer tractors have PTO brakes that you will tear apart if you do this all the time, not to mention the clutch.

That short pause is the hydraulic independent PTO hooking up. Be sure to idle down, engage the PTO and then raise engine RPMs. Hope this helps.
