I have a JD 2240. Just installed rear crank seal from JD. Put a little oil on seal on installation. Has a small leak. Just wondering if this seal should have been installed dry. I used proper install tool for the seal. Don't know why it would be leaking, any help appreciated.

Could be a slight hardly noticeable grove worn where the seal rides. Might check and see if they offer a speedi-sleeve kit for that application. If they don't NAPA or a good bearing supply should. Just need to mic the area where the seal rides for the wear sleeve. Then the O.D of the seal, they can match the I.D. to the wear sleeve.
