Who did you blame when Studebaker went bankrupt? FDR?

Studebaker never went bankrupt.

They simply diversified away from automobile production.
Some of the other subsidiaries they owned in the early sixties you may recognize-
Onan;
Gravely Tractor;
STP;
Paxton Automotive (superchargers)

They were also the exclusive distributor of Mercedes Benz cars in the US until 1966 :cool:

I still drive GM's , in fact just bought a new truck . The whole bailout , bankrupcy laws I don't agree with . The one that burns me the most , is the money that was given to the banking institutions . At least GM is still producing vehicles , more than I can say about some of the banks getting money . I thought I wanted to borrow the difference on my latest truck trade . I do all my banking with one facility . I asked them what was needed to borrow $15,000 on a $45,000 truck . They needed last 3 years income tax returns business and personal , and a financial statement for both . I said you have got to be kidding , you would be holding the title and you need what ? I told him , no thank you , I wrote a check for the trade . I told the dealer about this , he told me had already had me pre-approved if I wanted the money . In saying this , I can't beleive with a very good credit rating , no loans , and money in the bank , it has got to this point ...

Thanks, I just used that statement as an illustrative example to the poster who was trying to blame BA for his loss with GM stock. There were many reason that GM stock tanked - many stated here at one time or another. Their problems started long before BA was on the scene.

Not sure why you went through that...I financed with Ally (re-badged GMAC) and provided nothing...Was approved in less than 15 seconds by 3 other banks. Took Ally becuse they had an additional $2500 rebate.

To those who say the banks took the money...Keep in mind that the "bailout" money (that many banks were forced to take even though they didn't want it) was paid back with interest as soon as the gubmnet "allowed" them to repay. The government made a profit on that loaned money..It was not a gift, even though the media would like everyone to believe otherwise as it makes a nice populist story.

and a hush fell over the crowd

Yep, will not do business with banks that have taken bailouts either. Took very little effort on my part to move my money to a local bank that took no money, is rated in the top 30 in the US. Did a refinance with them at a 3.5% interest rate, and moved a boat loan to them. Paid off the one vehicle I owed on, 2008 Titan asap, and now watch were and who gets my money.

Will not buy JD either. There are others out there that did it on their own so why not reward the ones that did.

Blindly follow, believe the media, drink the Kool-Aid but I will not.

We many not have much of a voice but you can always control where you money goes.

I don't care who makes the tractor, a foreign country or our own government, I'm gonna buy the best machine I can find for my money.

dont care who makes the tractor why does it matter who makes the truck i like chevy trucks everybody here says that they wont buy them because they took bail out money if thats the case if you say you wont buy a gm product because they took bail out money then you shouldn't buy a johndeere either and im not talking about everyone just the ones talking about gm

but jb4310 thats what everybody should do just buy the best that fits there income

but dont have blinders on and bast one company and buy from a company that done the same thing
