Hi Chis :)
Yes, you gain a few hundred pounds of digging force with the bucket, and less with the dipper going from a 260 to a 46 backhoe, and you gain a half foot in digging depth. If you went from a 2305/260 to a Kubota B2630 / BH75you would double (roughly) the digging power, and add a 1 1/2 feet in digging depth. I'm not saying in any way that Orange is better here since I do like many things about green tractors.... including their color :) , but that is the kind of meaningful difference I would look for in that price / weight range.

Tomd999,
The points you make are valid. You also gain torque with the larger engine, and that is good for both tillers, and chippers. For your uses, it looks like you made a very good choice.

T185,

You don't have any information in your profile so it's tough to see what your needs are. How heavy was the pallet you were trying to lift? Is your property flat or inclined? Do you need a brush cutter?

I chose the 2520 over the 2320 because of:
1) Larger direct injected Diesel with more torque and easier starting.
2) Dual Hyd pumps
3) Better loader function and slightly more capacity (don't shoot me)
4) The 2.5HP more as I felt they would be better for my 655 and the snow blower (When it arrives someday in '08)

I had the typical 2520 tire/hitch arm interference until I swapped the wheels side to side and added an I-Match, since then, never hits now. I don't have any tire clearance issue with the loader so I can't speak to that, same for the mower deck and Hoe stuff. (I have a Wright Stander for the grass and I borrow my buddy's Case TLB if I need a Hoe, sorry Chris, free beats $5500)

My 2 cents,
Tom

But Tom , it makes such a nice counter weight on the back....;)
<-----Everyone needs a hoe......:D

Chris,
Your opinions come from more experience than I have with either tractor, and I certainly respect them as always. It's unfortunate that John Deere chose to limit the hydraulic speed on the 2320.

Well Chuck , thay did not haft too. :) thay did it. and used one pump
because its cheeper. those extra options is what makes the 2520 cost
more. some folks want more power , and thay haft to pay for it...;)

I agree with everything you have said. the mower height adjustment is fine if you can mow the whole yard at one setting ( I use three different settings for different sections because of terrain, or wetness). The 2520 is an excellent tractor, but you did nothing that couldn't be done just as well with the 2320,

I don't know if you have the independant lift, I did. Raise the deck, turn the knob and you have differant cutting height. I could mow in high range, I have heard you could not on a 2320. Also I had no trouble using my lx5. JC

I think it all comes down to what you want to do with the tractor. I cut 80% of the time with the 2305. FEL and Box Blade work make up the other 20%. As most of you know that have up graded the 2305 is a grass cutting monster. The FEL could be faster and lift more but it has always impressed me. Yes the fan and filter are very close to the ground but just looking at the tractor you should have known this. If you add height to the tractor you would take away form it's nimbleness.

Now if my main task was FEL and BB work the 2520 would be my pick. As said before you must add some major weight to these little tractor so they can do the job.

Sounds like you did not get the right tractor for your needs. I hope this time it works out for you but I would look hard at the 2520. Now let keep bashing the little 2305.

After tearing out my transmission fan for the third time last week and struggling to lift a pallet off a trailer (not to mention the numerous pucker moments while doing various chores around the house) I've come to the conclusion that I need to upgrade.
Hmm.... JD 24 month 0% could not have come at a better time:)

Anyone interested in a used 2305 with 57 hours...
I was in your shoes last year and was considering an upgrade. I was able to get into a 2520 by keeping my existing 200CX loader, blower, box blade and traded in the 2305 and 62C mower and bought a new rear finish mower instead of the pricey 62D. This made the price difference to go to the 2520 very reasonable. My situation was a little different though cuz I was leasing the 2305 but I bought the 2520 out right.

Were you planning on keeping your existing implements?

On the topic of pucker moments, the larger framed 2520 (very similar to the 2320 i suspect) is much more solid on slopes than my old 2305, so you won't have any worries there.

One last note on the extra torque of the 2520.. you'll notice the power difference, absolutely! Your power to weight ratio will get worse on the 2320 compared to the 2305, and the ratio is even better on the 2520. I smile every time I'm pushing the tractor and can feel/sense the difference in how it handles compared to the 2305. Before you make any decision, I would suggest trying both out.. ABSOLUTELY...and I don't mean just take it for a spin around the dealership.. put them both to work with the loader and some ballast.. you will feel the difference. Chris has mention this in the past, and I cound't agree more!!

Good luck with your decision!

I mow about 20% (3/4 of an acre) and use the FEL, bush hog the other 80%. Coming from a full size JD 555B TLB I was a little skeptical when I first purchased my 2305 and my fears have come true:mad: No one to blame me...
