Tractor
Kubota L2800HST
I got my Yanmar sold, so now I am ready to get serious in my search for a tractor. I'm going to start by looking at the L2800HST. I'm just wondering about power. I have heard guys complain that the 2800HST might be a little underpowered, especially with having a front end loader on and loaded tires while finish mowing. My property does have some steep hills I will have to pull. I would love to look at the 3400HST, but I really don't want to spend more than 16,000. I'm going to look at the TC30 HST too. I guess the real fun begins this weekend. I will probably be asking a lot of questions in th next few weeks, so bear with me.

Thanks.

If you’re going to use your tractor as a mower watch your overall tractor wt. The 30 horse tractors are great and you can get what you want in the price range for just the tractor and loader without the mower. I looked at the TC 30 and the Boomer. The Boomer is a nice tractor especially the supper steer package but to pricy. The TC30 is ok but tough on the eyes. I went with the Kubota B7800 because of the 4 cylinder 30 horse diesel. The tractor and loader was 16,300 with no attachment and R4 tires. The wt and size was right for my needs and it is quiet. Most all the work I do with it is just above idle and it never labors. I did like the 27 horse Boomer too but it had to many limitations because of the size and the problem with the Fords is you can’t get into a 4 cylinder till your over a 45 horse tractor and that is an enormous tractor and very pricy. Personally John Dear is just not user friendly, Its fine if you want to live in the JD world but you have to use all JD implements and you just out of luck if the don’t make something you want. That was my experience in the 3 brands I was considering in my hunt for a 30 horse tractor.

I pull a 830lb BB with my L2800 and it will stop it with the tires turning. I guess if I had purchased the L3400 then I could get the tires to spin faster:)

When I purchased my L2800 I needed x amt of dump height to dump into a trailer I'm half owner of and the L2800 fit the bill and so far everything else I've done with it has been more than satisfactory.

Sounds promising wushaw. I drove one today and I loved it. Not much of a comparison to the Yanmar I had. I just have to get the dealer to do the lift valve switch before he delivers it. I probably won't get much sleep until it I get it. I think my wife is excited too. The HST should be a breeze for her to operate.

Get this. The wife called her sisters last night to tell them what kind of tractor we were getting. Her brother in law's response was that he " heard Kubotas were junk". She called her other sister and she said she heard the same thing. This sent my wife in a tizzy of couse, because she doesn't know anything about tractors. She was questioning whether we were buying the right brand. I had to re-convince her all over again. Gee whiz...it never ends...

When I was looking at tractors I really only looked at the Fords and the Kubota’s. I was over at the New Holland dealer talking to the sales rep and we got onto horses and growing up on farms Yada yada yada . I was telling him what I had it down too that I was interested in. I told him about the Kubota and he said to me “ I really wish I could say something bad about the Kubota but it is a great tractor” He said for what I am looking for stay with JD, Kubota, Or Ford. He said I want to sell you a New Holland but you cant go wrong with a Kubota either He said personally he owns both and loves them both the same. He said you need to buy what is best for you.

MDM, what venue finally got your Yanny sold? I've had thoughts of selling mine lately too..... since i found a nice used tractor up the road for sale with only a hundred hours on it. Figuring on what i'll spend putting a FEL on my current tractor has got me thinking it may make more sense to buy one that already has a loader installed. Good luck on your new tractor, and make sure you post us a few pics when it arrives !!

Advertising in the local paper sold it. Sold it to the one and only person who called about it. Absolutely no hits by listing on equipmenttrader.com.
