Ready for a snowblower on the 2720

Labs,

There are many reasons to buy a rear mount blower (cost, resale, still use the fel, etc) and only one reason to buy a front mount.

It's a lot like comparing airplanes. Twin engine models are heavy, complex, add drag, cost more, burn twice the fuel, and have many more ways to kill ya...but those reasons still don't measure up to the one and only benefit. Man you feel better having a second engine! Same thing with blowers.

I've had a 48" front mount on a 2210 for three years now and we've had near record snow every year since. The front blower is the only tool for big snow. Using anything else is like using a wrench as a hammer, it'll work but you know there's a better way.

There are lots of reasons to get a 3ph blower, but when you first put one on the front you'll hear angels sing and believe your tractor found a soulmate. It's that good!

I will look into the remote chute. For me looking back is not really a good option with how much we have to plow - my wife would not be able to use it, she has 2 slipped discs in her neck and I know she woud never be able to do this but thanks for the opinions.
Can someone give me an idea of the cost of one?

I know this is a front vs 3pt thread, BUT I've said this before...Maybe you could convince me if Deere had a decent front blower. All front vs rear aside...the front mount Deere blower is what I consider "light duty" and I'm being nice.... Let me clarify....while they do a real nice job of blowing snow, there are alot better built blowers available both front & rear. Heck if you want to talk apples to apples...the front mount blower on a Kubota is 4x better built then the Deere unit. I mean come on, for the price they charge, they could at least give you a steel impeller...

ROFL, thats a good one...nah, I'm not interested in being a fake doctor...

I'm pretty sure the plastic impeller is considered an improvement.

But there is nothing poorly built with the 59" blower. If you don't get the joystick into float you can lift the front of the tractor with it. It spits gravel like a paint ball gun. And it doesn't flex when scraping rutted ground.

This is so funny! All you "looking back is manly" dudes trying to justify your 3-points. Pretty soon we will regress into the merits of using leaches instead of modern medicine:D
After running front mounts for 20 years I see no reason to look behind me. Even my next door neighbor who farms over 2,000 acres has come over to the dark side and bought a front mount.

I have a 54" blower, it works great - get one if you can.

Its not about being "manly"...its about saving yourself $2-3k and getting a better blower in the process. For the OP, its even more a consideration as this seems to be a "just in case we get another whopper of a storm" purchase...

If we could get the same quality blower for the same price, we wouldnt be having this discussion.

Spud, you are deluding yourself, big time. The front mount JD blower is the finest snow removal tool you can currently buy for that tractor. Period.

LOL...apparently you've never seen any other blower. Or are comparing your blower to a Yard Man you saw at WalMart...The Kubota front mount (Built by RAD) is a SOOOO much better built blower. Regardless of direction of travel, put the Deere blower next to a Pronovost or RAD built blower and report back...using an unbiased eye....
As for the FINEST Snow Removal Tool... Talk to Karl2...he's an owner of the finest snow removal tool.

From a real basic un-argueable point.... in my case (3x20 series w/R4's) putting a 59" Blower on a tractor that is 60" wide is a joke.

Over & Out.

As soon as Pronovost makes a front mount blower, I'll take a look at it. In the meantime the JD blower is the finest snow removal tool you can currently buy for that tractor.

And complaining about putting a 59" blower on a 60" tractor is nitpicking. Makes no real world difference in actual snow blowing. Seriously, if you can't blow snow without an extra six inches on each side, you may want to rethink where the problem is.

I have done some searching but have came up with no opinions on a front mounted snowblower for our 2720. Is the JD 54" a good snowblower? Can anyone give us any advice for getting a front snowblower?
We just want some insurance in case we ever get another big snow storm. The bucket just wasn't enough to keep the driveway cleared this storm!
Thanks for any help.

Sitting back and reading some of these replies, seems that only a couple have maybe answered your question. I live in central ny and we always get alot of snow I have a 2305, which by the way I'm very happy with. I've got a 54'' blade that I converted into 72'' that I only use for real heavy wet snow. I also have a 47'' jd front blower that I'm on my 3rd season with without any problems. The mechanic at my dealer told me as long as you keep the chain and sprockets lubricated and always make sure the chain tension is right and that the sprockets stay in alignment that I shouldn't have any problems for a long time as all parts will wear over time. I did however copy another members idea of adding wings, which I made myself adding 7'' total making my blower into a 54'' for a cost of $40.00. I have a cab and even If I didn't I wouldn't want to be turning around looking behind me I don't care what any ones says that can be comfortable. Someone on here said thats alot of money to spend in case you get snow like you just had,in the future, you said you wanted some insurance isn't that why people buy insurance, for piece of mind, just in case.
