Reading a Surveyors Plot Plan Question

/ Reading a Surveyors Plot Plan Question #21
In many areas, Google maps shows property lines. Switch back and forth between map and satellite view to see where the lines are, if they don't show in satellite view. My corners on Google are within a foot or two of accurate.

This may give you a good idea of where to look for corner pins.

In many counties here, the county website has an online tax map (GIS property finder) that you can adjust background map to show Google earth satellite photo with property lines superimposed.

Just me kind of doing a rough scale on my screen but I would venture a guess the 326 should be 236. Massachusetts is what is known as a metes and bounds state. The distance might be in your deed but might not also.

I run what is called closure on a plat. You start and put in the bearings and distances in around the entire property and should mathematically come back to your starting point. In the case of yours you can not do this because of the radius. I list on my plats a chord distance and bearing for the radius which assumes a straight line from end to end of the curve.

BTW they are bearings on the plat not azimuths. Technical note for anybody who cares.

Another note. A surveyors joke is GIS stands for Get It Surveyed. Some GIS systems are surprisingly accurate in places while others leave a lot to be desired. I helped draw up our counties 20 some years ago and it is just a pretty pic.
