Rat and mouse traps

As a mechanic many years ago, I often had to repair mouse damage under hoods. High tension wires eaten and wiring looms destroyed etc. Most were covered by insurance but I guess it depends on your policy. Rats completely destroyed my under hood insulation by making nests in it. Only discovered when I reversed out one day and a rat dropped out injured. I think the electric fan clobbered him when it started. I left the hood open every night after that and no further problems.

My nearly new Colorado with 855 miles left on the warranty started developing gremlins today; I unlocked it with the fob before daylight, and when I went out to it the radio was running. Then I started getting all sorts of error codes, power steering stopped working, service ABS, Stabiltrac, 4wd... always when I had the parking brake set. I popped the hood and found a nest and all sorts of organic parts chewed up... now I'm wondering if my comprehensive insurance covers mouse damage.

In Texas the auto comprehensive coverage is “all risk” which means it’s covered unless it’s specifically excluded. Coverage is pretty broad. Wire damage from mice is covered here.

That's good to know, I'm contacting the garage and my insurer today. I'm hoping the repairs don't come near my $1000 deductible.

we use the bait packs available at big box stores or similar. They change color throughout the year indicating a different poisson in them to prevent resitance. We only see a problem if we do not keep up on replacing the poisson that has been consumed. Pretty easy process.

It turns out that the mouse nest in the engine compartment had nothing to do with my electrical problems... I went to the garage this AM where they quickly determined that my parking brake pedal was rubbing on the wiring harness and had worn off the insulation. Pretty poor planning on the part of GM; had it lasted another 789 miles it would have been off warranty, making the bill mine.
I probably use that brake more than most due to my allergies... I tend to have a bad reaction when my truck rolls over me.

Pleased to hear your truck was a minor problem. Mouse damage can run into many dollars. Only one today and the magpies wait for me to throw them out. LOL They love them.

Never a vermin issue here, we have cats. They might pee on the tires but meeces, non existent.

Here is one of our cats with a fresh gopher caught in the yard. They are hunting machines. The yard was clear of gopher mounds until just a couple days ago. They have been practically camping out on those mounds.

Sorry he had eaten part of it so the picture might melt some snowflakes.

Same here. My old jeep after a few years in the back of the shed. Pack rat. The fluffy stuff is the remains of the seat cushions. 49E40E07-952F-4648-90B3-95846BCE8F84.jpeg344BF394-457F-4729-8EAA-D6AEA3FDF041.jpeg3B5C6007-3E36-4564-A8DF-5AF72F2E829D.jpeg
