Rant on shipping

Not a shipping rant per say... but this thread has shown a delivery date is at best just an estimate.

Had the blower motor go out this morning at a rental... so no heat from gas furnace.

Checked my accounts and the particular motor is back ordered system wide to March 1, 2021.

Monday is earliest to check local stock.

Tenants have an EPA CAT wood insert that we are not allowed to use due to air regs...

I am researching because I believe there is a temporary exception for emergency use.

Might consider furnace replacement... 80% Goodman 100,000 btu is about $800 with 7 day delivery.

Goodman stuff is contractor grade!
Our Florida A/C unit failed, so bought a Goodman replacement.
Unit failed at just under two years.
Goodman only supplied replacement parts under warranty.
Out of pocket cost was $1100.
No more Goodman anything for me...EVER !!!!

A tale of two companies... on Sunday I placed an order with LLBean for a sweatshirt, and with Cabelas for a pair of boots... the third or fourth pair I've owned.
I've already gotten the sweatshirt dirty, while the boots are "In process." Yet Cabela's got paid before Bean's did.

LL Bean probably had the sweatshirt in stock in Freeport.
Cabela's, who knows where?
Maybe China?

Goodman is the new Dayton at Grainger...

All of the Dayton products I've installed in the last 25 years are going strong... except for two separate capacitors...

Can't say if Dayton is/was rebranded Goodman?

We have circa 1995 Carrier though out the Hospital... so far parts still available and 80% of the gas-packs no issues... but I have heard Carrier of 1995 is not Carrier of 2020.

Amana must also have a tie to Goodman? Not sure about Tempstar and Rheem and I have a high end Rheem all new install that every years has issues... disappointing on a 15k heat pump install...

I sure do like the old floor furnaces... simple match light with a key or millivolt with wall thermostat...

Supply Chain from start to end user is highly dependent on ability to timely deliver...

Contractually, rental property owners have to maintain habitability and heat in winter is high on the list...

Will see as supplier says they ship 7 days a week and have promised delivery for next Friday... just to hedge my bet I used Hospital address because we get deliveries all day long... sometimes not so in the off the beaten path residential routes and so far no porch pirates at Hospital.

Yet 25 years ago I mailed an order to Cabelas on Monday and it was setting on my doorstep when I got home Friday. It doesn't bother me that I haven't received the order, except that when somebody takes money from my account I expect the order to be in the pipeline... preferably on a truck.

We are under Covid rules now, renters can't be kicked out for non payment so owners shouldn't be fined for not fixing stuff.

Its standard operating practice if not efficient for many to say if important caller will leave message.

Hospital Surgery admits given a printed card with area code and prefix of surgery unit so patient or patient ride can identify.

So many times patient ride is unreachable because number not recognized...

The kicker is many will hit call back and say you just called me??? then we have to say are you having surgery or soon to have surgery or the ride for someone having surgery today.

It was simpler when people answered the phone but it is the way of the world...

You bring up a good scenario. When my wife was having cancer surgery, MRIs etc. I answered EVERY call during it.

I had eye surgery recently and she ignored my calls after it when I was to be picked up until she was done shopping. Priorities I guess.

I wasn't aware that landlords don't have bills of their own to pay. Do plumbers work for free now, and is heating oil the same?

Landlords still have bills but the bank can't foreclose now.

I see a very big mess on the horizon between Renters and Landlords. Glad I am neither.

   / Rant on shipping #612
Banks can't foreclose until a minute after the rule changes.........
Banks, State, city etc. all expect to get paid each month whether renter pays in or not.

I feel for the landlords. Many of the renters that get behind are likely the ones that wont be able catch up if/when we get back to normal.

Those are the very same renters who expect everything to be kept up to snuff. I have never thought about being a landlord, yet now I'm really glad that I'm not.

A lot of the renters are making more money now then before the shutdown.
They don't pay because the government said they don't have to.
It is EXPECTED the government will pay or forgive the past due money because they can't be expected to pay a years back rent when this is lifted.

^^^ Yep... I do not see how this will end well. It will go on for years in court.

When we first moved here they gave us the number that had previously been assigned to a real deadbeat. Collection calls galore. After a few months we got it changed to the number in our exchange that had gone the longest time unused. That got rid of most calls, but as far as I know many of the spammers just dial sequentially so unlisted or not they're gonna get you.

Caller ID is a good thing...if we don't recognize the # we let the answering machine get it. Very few of the junk callers leave a message.
I inherited a work from for a former employee. He apparently was a dead beat and a player.

It alternated between getting collection calls, paternity suits, and a persistent baby momma that was trying to track him down to do colorful things to him. Took about a year for the calls to fall off.

My favorite though. All of a sudden I started getting calls from one of the local school districts.

At first it was automated calls for school closings, and a couple other times it was notifying me of a school lockdown.

My youngest was in a different school district, and the older two were out of school.

I finally called them when I started getting truancy calls for one of their students and got a name and number for a contact at the school.

As near as the lady could tell, they probably hit a wrong digit when keying a parents phone number into the computer.

I get it but the rent eviction moratorium keeps being extended with zero consideration on the other side.

Part of the reason is courts are closed for most purposes.

We all know the reality of sourcing/shipping supplies...

Many will never catch up... and a few have no intention and backed by continuing extensions.
