Internal tracking systems lag behind reality. Part of the under promise over deliver mind set.
Slow shipping is bad enough. But incorrect tracking info just adds fuel to the fire. Here's my experience this week on an order for an air compressor from Home Depot:
Ordered 12/7 (Debit card charged immediately.)
Delivery promised by 12/24 or 12/25
First tracking info was that it was 'on the road' on 12/9
Next info was that it was delivered 12/11 -huh? I didn't get it!!!
(Shipper's "Customer Service" only works 8-4:30 Monday thru Friday; no info over the weekend)
On 12/14 shipper says delivery would be 12/21
Compressor delivered 12/15.

So much for tracking information.

I placed an order last week, with an estimated date of Friday. (Actually it was originally two days ago as previously stated but...)
It shipped via UPS yesterday, this AM I got a "Delayed" notice. After logging onto the UPS site I found that instead of being delivered the 18th the new estimated date is the 17th. That's my kind of delay.

And oddball wouldn't call you of course.

They may still be mad at me from years ago when I suggested in March that they take their Christmas yard display down. Two retired lady college professors. Oddballs for sure.

January 17th........

You made me check... it should be here tomorrow.

When I bought my grapple this spring it was scheduled to be delivered to a business 50 miles away. On the original delivery date I was notified that it was stuck at terminal 170 miles away., and would be delivered the following week. Every day the next week they kicked it down the road another day or two and I was getting rather POed; it literally spent longer in shipping than it took MTL to fill the order. Finally I happened to stop by the place it was being delivered to and he asked me when I was going to get it out of his yard. It had been delivered almost a week earlier, even though the website showed it was still stuck at the terminal waiting for a truck.

Ok... here is my story... I paid to have a car shipped from New York to Oakland CA...

It was picked up in upstate and moved to New Jersey Depot for cross country...

I was expecting the car and nothing except "In transit" showed on tracking.

I finally was able to locate and dispatch said none of their transporters could move a narrow track car as it might fall through the ramps... they used a rollback to get it to NJ.

After much scrambling... FedEx agreed to pick it up and deliver... It was 5 weeks on a NJ dock... what a mess.

The auto shipper that advertised classic and antique didn't realize the dimensions of a 1950 Crosley... they still wanted to be paid for New York pickup... of course that went no where with me...

Crosley? My memory of those is they were unbearably loud inside. Ear-splitting. I think due to the engine assembled out of discrete tubing and plate components instead of a cast engine block.

A neighbor was a CHP officer and had a couple that ran, and a couple more out back. His kids would invite others to go on adventures with his Dad, mostly a few blocks in the neighborhood winding the thing up to unGodly rpms before shifting up. (But not moving very fast). Claimed 26 hp but not nearly as competent as the later VW imports at similar hp which were practical transportation.

Don't take it on the freeway! :D

How de he!! could a Crosley fall thru de ramps? Thing don't weigh 2000 pounds full of water.

Yep the first series uses a sheet metal engine... later models a more conventional engine... not loud at all.

I believe Crosley engines can be found in quarter midget racers?

Crosley cars started cost under $350 new way back when.

Here's link to the same model/color I have but I have the accessory propeller grill.

Not weight but the cars are narrow and most transporters have open centers so 40" wide was a problem

Crosley also won Sebring and sold Farm o Road with accessory plow, sickle bar mower, etc.

3/4 (TQ) midget class based on Crosleys back when plenty were available. Used to run inside buildings on track of masonite over ice rink. Guys wind em up, run like mad and shut down, den plug exhaust to slow cooldown and change oil. Back den Castor oil best for racing, but after hot had to be drained or turned to thick jello.
Smart people wore face diapers inside building races. Dump people had greenapple 2 step for 3-4 days.

Crosley made tractor converter kit and also Crosley tractor. Been hands on wid both some years back.

Probably best dopes not try transport if dey too stupid to use skid.

Rear suspension on Crosley cute too. Guy overby here got one down to frame wid seat & 3hp Fairbanks Z. Barely pull 5% grade wid 2 men on seat, engine boils lot of water too. Takes it to shows and hard boiled eggs in hopper.

Same time frame somebody made looks like Jeep about same size. 2 wheel drive 12" tires crazy machine. Sister bought one cause she wanted. Somebody disappeared it before she drove under ICC bar. NO, NOT Roof mower dat look like jeep.

I read somewhere - here? - that UPS and FedEx refuse to pick up packages from shippers when they have reached system capacity. But USPS can't refuse service so they are getting all that excess. Your Christmas presents may be delayed ......

Incidentally today a neighbor I never saw before knocked on my door with a UPS package he said was left at his place. I was too surprised to ask his name, or ask if it was delivered to him along with something he ordered. That might be a trick for finishing a route faster!

^^^^^^
That was a common ploy by UPS drivers for a while... leave packages at an abandoned building a mile up the road from me. It finally stopped when I reported a package missing which they said was delivered but I had to go through the vender to do it. I thought I knew where they left it, but can't go walking onto somebody's back porch looking for it... even if there isn't anyone living there.Apparently I can't call UPS or FedEx asking where they left my package.

For inexpensive, easily available items like a spark plug, why bother to order it on line? Local auto parts store, Walmart, TS...any of them should have it. Maybe 50「 more, big deal.

I don't order there a lot, but I've never had any problems with Amazon. I mostly use them for items not readily available (or considerably more expensive) locally.

My comment was related to retailers shipping the wrong stuff, shouldn't matter how big it is how cheap it is or how available it is.

It used to piss me off when i'd relate a problem and get that vacuous look and the comment, mine doesn't do that. Usually related to a computer. Now I just laugh.

When i tell someone, XYZ co ships the wrong stuff, i almost always hear back, that never happens to me.

Now when people tell me they are broke and can't pay bills or real sick etc i just say, that never happens to me.

I hope the USPS gets back on track after the holidays and when some of the Covid stress is gone. Here are a few examples from my family:
- An envelope containing a check mailed from a MA company on 12/1, arrived to us in OH on 12/16.
- An envelope mailed to a P.O. box 3 miles from us. Mailed over 2 weeks ago, has not been delivered yet.
- A small package shipped to us on 11/20, has not arrived yet. That's 1 month, and the tracking still shows it moving from place to place occasionally. It was in IN 10 days ago, but not to OH yet.
And yet, mixed in with these horribly slow examples we are receiving some USPS mail and packages sent from several states away in 3 days.

Maybe you're just unlucky?
I get that delivery services may have regional management/staffing issues that may result in mis-deliveries, etc., or that chain brick-and-mortar stores may also vary by region but I have to say I'm a bit skeptical when I read about large on-line retailers that "constantly" screw up with certain customers yet provide consistent good service to most others. Makes me wonder if there's more to the story.

How many packages do you get pre week/month?
Myself I may go weeks without getting any certainly less then 20/yr.
