USPS - 1 package came today with regular mail delivery, retrieved at 11:30am
A second package came by another USPS person about an hour later to my front door.
I just got an update, that a third USPS package is now in my mailbox.

All of this from around 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Talk about dysfunctional, I mean three visits for three packages!

A friend sent me a 1lb tiny box via UPS from FL to NH, normal ground 4 day delivery. $23. Yikes. He was doing me a favor but I wish he had gone to usps.

Well it begins again-
This may be Amazon specific.
Just had a box of gallon size ziploc (250 quantity) delivered - no outer box,

just the box of baggies.

Shipping without an outer brown box is far more common than those shoes.

A railroad mechanical failure has delayed delivery. We're working to deliver your package as soon as possible.

Our normal postman hasn't been around for weeks, we hope he is ok.
The new one keeps trying to stuff packages into the mailbox, or leaving them on top of the mailboxes, right in front of the sign that says.
Don't leave boxes here as we have had them stolen.
I guess reading is not part of the new postal service training?

I know it isn't for our local Amazon delivery service
The large, eye level sign in the window says, "Please leave all packages under the lean to, to the right of the garage" . The garage is opposite the door, 'bout 30' from it.

Reading comprehension seems to be lacking today and so is spelling as evidenced on this site as well.

We are lucky that we always have the same rural mail carrier (and he can actually read) as well as the same Fed-Ex driver (and he can read as well) and both always have a dog biscuit for our pup who waits patiently for his treat.

Nothing new. Over 20 years ago I was working out of state, and had supplies shipped to my house, paying extra for expediated shipping so they would be there when I got home.
They weren't.
I left a big Rubbermaid plastic waterproof box on my doorstep, with a note saying "please leave packages in box." When I got home 3 weeks later the first thing I saw was my package setting on the doorstep... right next to the box.

A large part of it is that the shipping companies are so busy they don't have time to stop and read. I see UPS trucks out until after dark... one driver said he's made deliveries as late as 9:30 at night. I believe that Prime has helped us to expect unreasonable turnarounds on our ordering, and now it's coming home to roost.

It is my belief that the USPS really does not care. They often don't deliver our mail. Just last month, we were sent a refund check (ach withdrawal for med insurance after we changed providers) for $726. After a month (it was a local company) of calling the company and attempting to get usps to find it we had it canceled and made arrangements to pick up the new check ourselves. Then, Monday, the mail came and the check was included (took only 5 weeks and was now canceled). Picked up the new check.
If USPS shipping is the only option, I buy somewhere else.

Sometimes if you look close, Amazon has an option to ship without box. The "save the paper movement."
In our area, shipping from Amazon transport, Fedex and UPS have been exceptional. We have a circle at the end of our drive and I have all packages delivered. Except USPS. They refuse to deliver there. They will only deliver at the mailbox on the main road. Since packages won't fit mailbox, they "for our convinence" throw it on the ground. Sometimes in the roadway.
Then you would ask " why not just put the box on the circle at the end of the road. I did ask. They refused. Would not deliver there.

UPS and Fedex drivers even call when delivering. Amazon automatically gives me a delivery notification in about a minute after delivery. I also have a sign posted there when I expect deliveries with the number if they need.

One the other hand, I always wish there was a way to return amazon boxes for reuse. But that may cost more than the new boxes.

I repurpose my Amazon boxes. I fold them flat, stack 6 or 8 thick and drill the corners and tie tight with string. I then use for air gun targets. The more powerful the gun, the thicker the stack.

We put in one of those self assemble boxes a little ways from the mail box and have a sign on the mail box to put deliveries in the box. Works well.

What he said. All the delivery services are on tight schedules, and are generally timed on their deliveries. They don't have the time to fart around putting packages in non-obvious places. If I were a driver for one of those services, I'm not sure I'd take the time to read every sign that people post on their door.

Speaking of reading signs, I’m at the register of the Dollar store recently, I asked the cashier a question and she pointed and said with a exasperated attitude “Read the sign“. Fuming I replied ‘this store is nothing but signs and advertisements so I’m not going around to read every one.‘

I have noticed that there are people that interface with customers working in stores now that never would have been able to hold the job pre-covid. Social skills in general are also on the decline.

Sad but true, stopped for a coffee on the way home last week, girl that passed me my coffee never even acknowledged me, was more intent chawing on her gum and talking to one of her co workers. 'Nuther thing that drives me crazy is 'What.." you never heard the word "Pardon?" . My daughter thankfully has manners and is trying her damnest to impress them upon her 4 year old daughter which is working well so far........Mike

I walked out of the grocery store last week after putting the items back which were going to be my lunch. It's a small store so two lanes were open; on one side the woman had just begun ringing up a full cart of groceries. The clerk at the other one was just standing there talking to the customer, not even attempting to ring up here order. After standing there feeling stupid for a couple of minutes I decided that it was time to get back to work. It's one thing to be friendly, but at least TRY to do your job.
