Rant on shipping

I placed a $998 order with Zoro that was to be delivered yesterday… it said yesterday when I ordered and still yesterday on yesterday…

I called today and learned it won’t even ship until tomorrow and then to expect 7-10 days…

It’s to the point anyone counting on just in time is willing to gamble…

I had a notarized document that had to be in Chicago last Monday… paid $160 to UPS for the overnight letter.

It arrived late in Chicago so not delivered Monday…

Yesterday it said delivery could not be made at 7:51 am and that is because the business which opens at 8 am was closed at 7:51 am…

I called and raised Hell saying Wednesday is not going to work and driver needed to go back and that is what happened just before noon yesterday…

I haven't read all the rants, I am sure there are some good stories there. I feel like I have persanally been pretty lucky with shipping issues. Sure, some broken thing here and there but I have mostly been made whole in most of those issues, sometimes with great benefit to myself. Like a broken vanity that they said just keep it and refunded me. Fixed it and no one would ever know it was broken. My biggest pet peeve is when shipping is more than the cost of the item. I usually just skip it when I run into that, I just can't bring myself to do that.

But really it is a numbers game. Think about the sheer volume of packages that go out of USPS, UPS and Fed Ex everyday. There is an attrition rate, and sometimes we get unlucky and ours is the package that gets screwed up.

I understand what you are saying
Yet when they are leaving packages 30 or more miles away it's obvious that the driver isn't even trying. Apparently this ia common, based on everything I've been hearing.

Our last two Fedex subcontractors were horrible. Leaving stuff everywhere.
Middle of driveway, by the drainage ditch, 200' north of us on the side of the road.

We even lost a few packages, who knows where they went.
I complained a lot, now they have a new subcontractor in the area.

I had a talk with him early on, now my packages show up by the front door, or in bad weather down by garbage cans and not visible.
Hopefully this keeps up. I already told Fedex this group is good and gave commendations on the usual driver too.
It only took 4 years to get this fixed since the original driver retired

UPS and USPS are spot on, though the post office itself loses mail a few times/year.

30 miles away?!? That's awful! There are definitely some crappy drivers out there. But then again I will see our UPS driver still delivering packages at 730 PM well after dark and feel for the poor guy. That must suck. But that is the job they signed up for.

Not always as they are sub-contractors. I think the last sub didn't pay well and we got the service to reflect it.
New one the guys look happier.

Does UPS use subcontractors (outside maybe of Christmas rush)? Anything I've ever received shipped UPS was delivered by a guy in a standard brown truck.

I don't think so, I always see the same 2 guys, for the first 7 years I was here, it was always the same guy, until he retired. Not sure how they do overflow.
With amazon, it looks like when they get overwhelmed they use car services, have had unmarked mini-vans and cars show up with packages, usually driver dons the Amazon vest so people don't freak.

Who did you complain to?

I am currently waiting for a Fed Ex delivery scheduled yesterday.
We were home all day, no package left.
Fed Ex shows a door tag left at 3:27.
No tag on my door.
I've got two cameras on the drive, no activity.
