JD LA140
Yesterday my wife was cutting grass with our L140 and didn't see a small twig. After she ran over it and intended to continue, it would not move. She disengaged blades, shut off engine and saw that part of the twig was around one of the pulleys.

After removing it and restarting tractor it still would not move. We managed to put it up on a lift but couldn't see anything amiss.

Appreciate any advice!

Must resist JD joke...must resist JD joke...must resist JD joke.

Sorry you're dealing with this. When you have it off and on the lift, can you freely move the belt/pulley?

Did you happen to check the top of the deck to see if it thru the belt off the pulley?
And maybe check the safety switch(es) in case the branch struck one of those wires before getting wrapped around the pulley.

Yes, while it was on lift we were able to move belt and blades. Also when pushing down on pedal noticed the tension was much less than normal.

Are you aware there is a belt to move the tractor which is separate from the one that drives the blades? Check the path carefully.

Belt was on pulley and checked the safety switch under seat, it was securely connected

Yes, both appeared OK but will check again after we get it back on lift

Some riding lawn mowers have a little lever, often at the back of the tractor you pull out so the tractor can be pushed or towed. Any chance yours has such a lever and it got pulled out?

Rod was pushed in all the way (until we pulled it out to get it into shed!)
