Rainy day, did assembly

It was a dreary day around here. This afternoon, I spent part of the time assembling my newly green row maintenance machine. It's the old JD M soil ripper cut down to fit my 4010 but with some smaller disc hillers in place plus 4 of the chisel plows instead of all 7. Two plows are installed upside down for weight.

I'll leave my raised rows I created with the 16" disc hillers in place for probably 4 years or so. This setup will allow me to rip down the rows but clear out between the rows with the 12" disc hillers.

How does that work? You drive over top of the crops and the discs force soil in towards the crop row you're driving over?

The discs run behind the tires. The tires run between the rows. The chisel plows bust up the soil in the rows.

I guess this only works with low crops though. Once they get high enough they'll hit the bottom of the tractor. I guess by then though you'd have the mission accomplished

This is only for busting up the rows and clearing out between the rows when the crops are gone. It's my way of maintaining raised rows and not having to resort to a rototiller that tends to tear up the soil a bit much and destroys the rows every time. Saves me the price of a rototiller, too.
