Rain

   / Rain #81
As I thought. I'm up to 7.34 inches of rain since 1-1-2024. About 3/4 an inch in the last two weeks. We are having a very wet early summer.

   / Rain #82
5 3/4 inches here in East Texas in the last 7 days. Thunder storms are expected again this afternoon. We lost power twice. This is what hit us last night. The lights where dimming and flickering, but we never lost power.

And here is a short video that I took of Saturday nights storm that dropped an inch in half an hour.

In my area of East Texas the rainfall amount at this point is 27.6 inches.
Average yearly rainfall from 2019-2023 is 53 inches.
So we are not far off the yearly average.

   / Rain #84
We had .02 a couple of days ago, so I am up to 1.65 for the year. Current humidity is 5%. However the monsoon season sometimes starts in June & there have been some storms around the area. Hopefully things will change shortly.

Rain. Rain. And more rain. I need rain to keep my fields green and growing, my tanks full, animals happy etc.... and I know in July and August I'll be begging for some of it. But, I'm praying the All Mighty will just let up for a few weeks so I can work on
my fields, clear downed trees, spread more gravel/repair a road washout, regrade the driveway and try to catch up on other "rain-delayed" farm work. The ground is completely saturated. Two of my peach trees have drowned. I have good slope for drainage in most areas but have standing water in pastures. Last few weeks have been crazy. Rain, hail, high winds, Repeat.
Weather man says MORE on the way this week. Whoopee.
Then we'll probably have some 90*+ weather with 78% humidity!
Just letting it out......now I feel better.
I'm NE of Dallas and it has been raining off and on for 3 months. I accidentally found a 3 day window and got my winter crop somewhat baled....good enough, but not my best work, and then on another 3-4 day window got my summer hay crop planted. Checked it today and yellow but 4" tall. When it quits raining and the sun comes out it will turn green and take off. So......I have problems and I have solutions....looks like the year will work out.

My land is sand down to 8' or so, we put telephone poles in the ground 8' for lights and didn't hit dirt. I mowed some pasture today. I had to miss some areas with standing water.in areas I have never had standing water. Even on the high side of one pasture I was skidding around leaving ruts. Will put off mowing for a few days.

This is my rainfall totals at my shop according to my “Raindrop” app. It is fairly accurate most of the time.

We are getting hit pretty good right now in Mineola. High winds and heavy rain.

Edit: And power just went out.

   / Rain #89
That's probllably about to hit us or just passed through. This evening has been wet and thundering. Gusty at times, too.

I haven't even tried to get out with the tractor lately. Ground is too wet.

Going to pick up my grapple tomorrow, so it will probably be dry. 😀

That wind was intense. News stations are saying it was 70mph at the Airport in Tyler. I have trees that snapped in half. My garage addition was still in house wrap, or it used to be. The wind tore it off!!! My rain gauge shows 2 5/8's inches when we went to bed. Power has been off 11 hours so far. From what we're seeing in the news, there are areas of Tyler that are impossible to get to because of all the trees blocking the roads.

I see you got hammered again today. Looks like some of that might get down to us today. We are getting behind on our work.

I'm not sure what the totals are for Tyler today. I was cutting up a fallen tree for one of my clients and it started raining around 10 am. I had to get it out of the way so the power company could run the lines to her house. She's 97 and going strong. He two daughters, in their 60's where both out there in the rain helping me. We where soaked, but got it done by the time the lightning started up. I'll work in the rain, but not in lightning!!!!

We got hit with 3" night before last. 1" last night (might have been more if the wind wasn't blowing
everything 60mph sideways). A lot of trees blown over, branches broken etc around Canton and more south. If I have to get off gravel or concrete I wear rubber boots.
Everybody does their hay a little different. In late March I was able to spray for early weeds popping up.
We were having a few dry days between rain at that time. Then April 4th I was able to mow ( top my grass) the front 10 ac. Now, I've got very few weeds but Oats have come up and I have no idea when my ground will be dry enough to do anything. My woods have fallen trees/branches that block my road to my back pasture. 3 of my peach trees have drowned. And......more rain predicted. Oh yea, and don't forget the
mid 90's+ too.
Lately these storms are moving east/n. east and La. and Ark are getting pounded too.

This is probably the worse damage to a house, from a tree falling on it, from Monday nights storm. They say that it split the house in half. From the pictures, it sure looks like it!!!!!

   / Rain #97
Another 0.9" yesterday and at least 0.3" today. It's still raining....

That puts me at 43.30" year to date, which is 4.20" above average.

I've seen that exact thing years ago. Brought in a crane to help. After insurance, court fight etc the house was torn down. No way to fix the foundation and damage that was economically feasible. Sad thing for those folks.
EW, did you get storms last night ? Started about 1:30am and lasted until 5:30 or 6. Heavy rain, high winds, thunder, lightning the whole show. Tapered off about 5am into steady rain. Try to stay dry.

Yes, it hit here this morning around 5 am. Lots of thunder and lightning, then heavy rain. By 8am, it was gone and we had another 2 inches. That brings us to just over 6 inches in three days.
