John Deere 3320
Hey Guys i'm going to install a radio in my 3320 this weekend.
The cab is all pre wired just need to pop in the deck its self.

My question is i removed the cover and it's a square plug if i remember right the decks you get at best buy or wal-mart are not a square plug on the back of them. is there some sort of adapter i need to also purchase?
Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Thanks

crutchfield.com should have any adapter you need. They should also be able to cross reference an adapter you may be able to buy locally. They also sell the Jensen systems that John Deere puts in if you order it at the factory (JHD3620). It is also less than have the price of John Deere on this site. I like the Jensen units as they are designed to take the vibration and any rough bouncing, etc.

Thanks for the info.
I might just buy a stereo and see what the plugs end up looking like.
What i'm wanting is a deck like this
Newegg.com - NEW XO VISION XD103 AM / FM STEREO RECEIVER WITH USB AND SD
No CD player in it. just Radio AUX in and also USB so you can plug a jump drive with music into it. Also my phone has unlimited data so i want to just be able to jack my phone into the stereo through the AUX and run pandora and spotify. unlimited music selection without having to deal with CD's.

Hey Guys I stopped at the JD dealer and they sold me this wiring harness (see picture)

They could not give me a diagram for which wires does what. I picked up a cheap stereo deck and i see there is a yellow power feed wire that the harness does not have is there another lose cable up there i didnt notice for the power?
Thanks

If they wouldn't give you a diagram then I would take it back and tell them to keep it. That's BS.

It is possible that not every wire color would match. Easiest thing to do is to take a volt meter or test light and see which wires are hot.

However that only helps for power. You really don't want to connect the speakers up backwards.

The other option would be to find a plug from someone else and download the instructions for the harness. The wire layout should be the same.

It's not they wont the parts guy couldnt find anything sorry i worded that poorly.
and to top it off the wiring harness they gave me is the wrong one. that plug i have in that picture is the plug thats already pre wired into the cab. what i need is its female counterpart not the male with the lose wires.
If anyone knows of a PDF that shows those wires and what each color meants it would be a huge help.

I cant be the first guy to install a basic radio deck into one of these cabs :)
Thanks :)

I am not sure if John Deere would have the female counterpart for this application. The mail connector plugs directly into the back of the Jensen radios. I am on the train now, I'll look for a wiring diagram for my Jensen radio later this evening. The diagram should let you cross reference what each wire connects to.

Awesome. Thank you for your help.

Edited to add more.

It looks like it uses a Vdub plug.
I pulled the wire out of the radio insert and also the antenna plug everything is there.
However look at the picture of the plugharnes.jpg that seems like WAY too few wires for 4 speakers doesnt it?

I didn't know the radios plugged straight in. I thought they'd be more like car radios and just buy the adapter and wire it to the radio.

Attached you will find a page I scanned out of my radio manual. For you the radio isn't important here. But it does show the pinouts and caution for the factory wiring harness in the headliner. Another thing I like about this Jensen radio is the iPod connector and interface on this radio. It lets me fully control my iPhone, mutes when a call comes in, etc. via the radio.

Thanks for that. crazy thing is those pin outs do not match mine at all.
A4 is my ground A2 and A3 are the power. Here is where i really get confused B2 B3 B6 B7 seem to be speakers i can get them to crackle is i hook the speaker wires to them. But there dont seem to be enough wires for rear speakers. is it common they would only come with front speakers.
I have a total of 9 wires 1 ground 2 for power 4 that seem make the front speakers work than one other i havent figured out it's roll yet.
This one takes the cake as one confusing install. not figuring out which is + and which is - on the speakers could prove to be interesting.

The cab only has two speakers in it from the factory. You can go to JDParts.com and get the breakouts and diagrams that will show were they are. You would have to add another pair of speakers to get four.

Take a 9 volt battery to both wires for the speaker, if the woofer pops forward, then you have the neg and pos correct, if it sucks in, you have them backwards.

The wiring harness that you needed was the same one that is used for a VW car. Not exactly sure why JD used that, but they did. I took a pic of the plug and took it to Best Buy and the guy new exactly what it was and got me the adapter with the wiring diagram on the package. Crimped the wires from the radio harness to the adapter and it was plug and play. Didn't cut a wire.

Once you get that harness its amazing how easy the install is. Vdub harness I would have never thought of on my own seems like deere would have picked the gm and ford a domestic harness but I guess a harness is a harness in the end.

I found out that those cabs are made in Germany and shipped to GA. That might have something to do with it. :)

That explains my overwhelming craving for a bratwurst with sauerkraut every time I use the tractor . Haha.
