Radiator replacement /cross over coarse flow for 3110 D

It's getting to be that time again - Bush hogging or I my case flail mowing.
I have a great 3110 D and it appears from my use over the years to have only one weakness, a radiator with EXTREMELY compact fins, it tends to pick up finer material than dryer filters.
Yes I have used the prescreen - mow twice, raise bucket, flip hood, clean once, close hood, lower bucket - repeat until field complete.

So my question, Is there a US crossover model with coarser fin stock pattern that could be installed that would let this lint like dust or very small dandelion seed heads flow through? I have a bucket up front (protects the grill) with an electric fan in front of the radiator and as needed, shut the engine down so I can reverse the airflow to help clean it and in some instances, applying compressed from the fan side also.

While it's a "minor issue" - it does cut into active mowing more than I'd prefer. That's the ONLY advantage the old Massey has over my machine.

I don't know about the radiator. But I would like to hear your comparison with the Massey. What model is it, and how is it deficient compared to the Yanmar?

May not be a fair comparison but such is life in a YANMAR forum... :laughing:

Pros: Power Steering, MFD, bucket, ease of parts availability, transmission gear choices shuttleshift ease, will run for ever. Starts faster than anything else I have ever driven - even my 1972 Chevy truck.
Part time cons: Lower ground clearance, Radiator fins clog during mowing.


MF 135
Pros: Radiator fins don't clog during mowing, ease of parts availability,
will run for ever. Tech says a bit more power at the PTO, but I haven't seen the difference.

Cons: Steering box freezes in the winter, makes that first 10 feet or so real interesting - unless parked in doors overnight.
(But I have to admit I'm a bit stiff at the start of the day myself )

Cranky starts -, kicks the day off like an Irishman after a long Friday night, at least it's never dull. Gas - I haven't personally had a flame out, but I do have a relative in the farm insurance sector with 30 years experience and the stories - Yikes! fuel line paranoia.

I would get/keep that water out of the steering box.

Well thanks folks - I've had some of the "wise ones" chime in and it doesn't look like I'm missing something simple - always hoped the Green units might have had a part to help, but it may be the same on that side. Overall it's really a minor matter - because this is one sweet machine to operate.

To be honest, I'm glad the smaller unit I went to buy originally was sold while I was in transit to the dealer. Sometimes the bigger brother is better, I couldn't be happier unless it was free!


As to keeping the water out That's a big Heck YeaH! as it were...

i too hate the mow 30 mins and clean the screen off, but you got to do it iff your cutting tall grass with seeds or fluff on it!
