I have been feeding a stray cat on my covered porch. I cut a small opening in a box and put some bedding in and some food. The food's been eaten overnight but I have not seen the stray for maybe a week but that had not been unusual. Well, this am while feeding our other cats and our horses, I stopped by the box to retrieve the food container. It was barely daylight and I just stuck my hand in and got bit. I flipped the box on it's end and lo and behold, there's a coon in it. The coon kind of froze so I ran for a empty cat liter pail with a lid, filled it with water and dumped the coon into the water to drown it.
I told my wife to forget church today and showed her my bloody finger. Knowing how the ER can be, I ate breakfast first. I dumped the dead coon and water out on the ground, put the coon in a plastic bag and then in another dry bucket. Not being sure what would transpire, I put the coon in my truck and headed to the ER.
No one at the ER was up on what to do so they called the health dept. The ER doctor had me retrieve the carcass. They put it in a foam cooler and iced it down to be picked up. I am supposed to hear from them by Tuesday.
No shots yet. Just some antibiotics. Not having spoken to the health dept folks, I am not sure where they had to send the coon to?
