Quickcrete acid etching stain?

Anyone use this stuff? Did you like it? Would you do it again?
I'm thinking about using it on my patio. Thought I would check in here first.

First, I love the little bug! It's 0430, dark outside and here in the kitchen...I was trying to scratch his little butt off the screen!

As for the particular brand "Quickcrete", I haven't used it. But, I will say that my garage floor is acid etched. If it's anything like the stuff the guys who did my floor used, it's awesome stuff. When they put it on, my floor was smoking. It wasn't cheap though...cost me around 1700.00 to have my garage done (3.5 car).

They even cut lines in the concrete to make it look like tile. It's awesome stuff, fools a lot of people, until they get down and rub the "grout" lines.

I'd do it again, but shouldn't need to. It's lifetime. The stuff soaks into the concrete like burnt oil does, only better. I don't think you could get this stuff off if you tried.

I have used Quickcrete concrete stain. I did my whole house inside with it (about 2500 sq ft) Make sure you apply it just like they recommend. Just like a paint job the result will very with the prep work. We got lazy in a closet and it did not turn out perfect but still ok for a closet. The rest of the house turn out good. I have had it down for 2.5 year. I like the product and would use it again.

We are building a all concrete house so we would like to "stain" our floors. Some work as chem acid reaction with the concrete's calcium, other are a top coat. very different methods. In any case it is not very deep. This what concerns us. We were at the Las Vegas World of Concrete show last year and saw many companies. At one booth, they produce a photo of a store entrance were the color was completely gone due to high trafic. They were selling sealers. It has to be maintained. Now I don't expect my floor to see that kind of ware, but I do have dogs!

Go to your local New Wal-mart, ours has stained floors.

When we built our home 2 1/2 years ago, we used the Quikrete cement stain on our floors. We read the instructions, and on my birthday, we spent the entire day scrubbing the bare concrete with the acid to prep it for the stain. It's tedius work, but we figured it was important to do it right.

The stain went on real easy and looked very impressive. We chose a dark brown color, but I forget the exact name of it for sure. After about a month, we noticed that it was starting to wear in high traffic areas and where the stools slid on it.

Today it looks terrible. It's an eye sore that we've decided to cover with tile in some areas and laminate flooring in others. I would never recomend this product to anybody.

I don't even think it's a real stain, but more of a type of paint for cement. it didn't penetrate the concrete and the areas that it's wore off look like the concrete in our shop. I think it will come off real easy if I ran a buffer over it, or any sort of wire wheel.

As for the acid etching stain, that might be different. I don't remember it having that name to it, so maybe you will have better luck then I did.

At the home show this weekend, I talked to a guy that does acid stain. He said it is supposed to penetrate, but then they use a sealer and put a commercial wax coat on the top to give it a lifetime finish. Hope yours comes out well.

I know nothing of the Quikcrete product, but
In planning our new house we decided on acid stained concrete floors.
There are internet sites available with info, I bought DVD instructions.
We decided to go with the Brickform acid stain , Blush-tone - Brickform

We waited 28 days for the concrete to cure, then my wife and I applied it. Not that difficult, just that we did about 3200 sf. We did this before doing any other work on the house. After the acid staining, then we built the house. That meant the floors were exposed to sun, wind, and plenty rain along with all the wear and tear of the construction process. After the painting (interior) was completed, we cleaned and sealed the floors. We used the Brickform sealer, a solvent based acrylic - 2 coats. I then applied 5 coats of commercial floor polish.

That was last Aug. Haven't really done much of anything since except sweep/dust mop/vacuum from time to time and wipe up a spot now and then. The house still isn't finished (almost) so it has suffered more construction wear as well as living in it. We've had a bunch of folks tour the house past 2 weeks and we get enthusiastic comments on how the floors turned out. We are very pleased with them.

Wow Sodamo, those look great! Are those pictures when the floor was still wet, or does it have that smooth a finish? How long do you think you spend total for your 3200 sq ft? Great job.
