Hey Fellas:
I am very new to this website and very new to trying to be a hobby farmer. Trying to find info on a flex 71 one row planter that I just bought. I have been reading alot on lustran plates and finally got a small cross reference table (JD to Lustran) and want to know if this thing will plant other seeds as well. This seems to be a geared more to corn only. I have dreams of planting alot of other stuff as well as corn but am having trouble finding plates that will plant green beans, oakra, squash, green peppers, and other veggies that people plant in their gardends. I want to do about 3/4 of an acre for myself and my two sons and their families.
Are there plates out there for planting a variety like the Earthway hand planter will plant or should I get rid of this 71 and maybe get a Cole or some other that offers more seed planting options. I got a good deal (I thought) but maybe I made a mistake.

I also plant my gardens with a Flex 71 planter. Whenever I am on Ebay and see a set of various lustran plates that I don't have, I buy them if the price is good. So now I have a good collection of various sizes of flat, round and soybean plates.....as well as sunflower. I can plant pumpkins, green beens, peas, corn, sunflower and soybeans with mine. So far I have used it with soybeans, sweetcorn, and green beans. It does a great job.

My sweet corn did great this year, but the green bean seed mostly rotted in the ground due to a wet cold spring this year.

Last year I planted soybeans 4 inches to the inside of my sweetcorn after the corn was up a few inches, and both the corn and the beans did good. The beans were just there to add a little bit of nitrogen for the corn. More of an experiment than anything.

I sell a bunch of 71 flex planters on ebay and you can plant alot of different sizes of seed. If you want to plant something small like red garden beets you need a different bottom/hopper. If interested just PM me.
