Questions about BCS 38" mower?

I don't have much for hills one small area that takes 2 passes. Earth tools is just over an hours drive for me . I got there early and they were still assembling my machine. After it was assembled Joel the owner came out checked the machine over, adjusted a couple things made sure I understood how everything worked and loaded it on the truck himself. The 732 is nearly the same as my grillo G85D just 1 H.P. more, same wheels , speeds etc. but the grillo was $700 less Is the BCS 740 available in the U.S. ?? A quick web search showed only european listings. Joel also told me my G85D could be upgraded to a G107d If I ever wanted the bigger unit

plumberroy,

I might have to go back and take a closer look at the Grillo machines. I just settled on BCS because there are some "local" dealers about an hour away.

The 740 is available here in the US. I was checking one out at Ag Progress Day nearby in State College about a month ago. I also think there is someone on this board who wrote in they have one.

It sounds like you are happy with buying your machine from Earthtools. If I was as close as you it would be a no-brainer to buy from them. At least on the phone and in email they have been very helpful and in the end will most likely get my business.

I'm usually the first to defend buying locally. However, "local" BCS dealers tend to be In Name Only. I get calls fairly often from owners of BCS machines that want me to work on them. If they come from the Madison area, they drive past three BCS dealers to drop their machine off here. Most dealers, no matter the brand, would rather talk about selling a new one or replacing an entire assembly (carb, engine, attachment) than fixing what's broken.

The 740 is indeed available here. However, the person who posted about his experiences was from Germany. I do not personally know of any owner of a 740 or 750 in the US. They're definitely out there, but I just don't know any.

Generally, Grillo is more suited for tillage and BCS is more suited for mowing. Either will do both well, but their strengths are focused on what they originally started out as - BCS as a mower company in the 40's and Grillo as a tiller company in the 50's. You mentioned that they are very similar machines on another post. You're right. They actually worked together closely in the late 60's and 70's to develop what we know as a two-wheel walk-behind tractor today. BCS used to paint the Grillo 131 blue and badge it as a BCS 755. There are a very few here in the US.

Have you used the mower without the bagger? What is the maximum grass height one can cut at the highest setting without producing grass clumps at the discharge chute?

lkjhg,

I have a two acre field that I have cut with my finishing and flail mowers.

I have cut grass as high as 20" without bagging or clumping, but I have to bugee the discharge. FYI- My wife was not happy with me. She made me hose off my clothes before she would wash them!
