I found a Uhaul location that rents a 12' tanden axle (4000lb load capacity)vehicle trailer for $49/day. I would like to move my JD 2320 . . but wonder if the tracks are too far apart for my narrow tractor. My dimensions show the front wheels at 31 inches.

Does anyone have experience with a uhaul vehicle carrier?

They list a maximum width . .but no min. And a call to the unhelpful rep was no help. Looks like I'll have to make the 30 mile drive to measure.

Maybe try calling another U-haul location? Usually those folks try to answer questions like that to save the Customer a useless trip. 30 mile trip and find out it doesn't work versus a couple of phone calls is worth my time.

I made the drive. doesn't look like it will work. Inside width is 42 inches. Although their tandem utility migh just work. Only 2100lbs of capacity . . .and a little short (12'). I would guess the tractor at 1600 w/o loader and 2400 w/loader . . so maybe. I'll jump over to the JD forum and see if anyone has the (unlisted) dimensions handy.

If you just need to move it a few times a year maybe a tow service with a roll back truck may be the way to go.

I checked that option. They charge by the hour total time including loading unloading . . so for my journey i'm sure it would be 3 hours, so approx $220 each way. A return weekend use or service would be $440. Cheaper than a trailer but painful.

Why not just buy a trailer and use that. You should be able to get one for $2K -$2500 Then if you dont need it anymore sell it . V

It's looking like buying is the only rational option . . . .but i'd really thought there would be others.

I have used the UHaul 12' tanden axle (4000lb load capacity) vehicle trailer to move my B2910 twice. Once was about a 60 mile trip, the second was about 20 miles. I had the loader and mid mount mower installed.... no room for a rear mount implement, I put those in the back of my truck. The inside lip of the top ramps on the trailer have a nicely rolled edge and the centerline of of my front tires (R4s, 3 ft apart) sat right on top of that rolled edge. The loading ramps can be angled in but they are too wide at the trailer end so I used two 2x12s perpendicular to the ramps to make up the difference. It requires a thinking, and being careful while loading/unloading but it can be done. There was no damage to my tires. I like trailer. It tows well, is solid, and is a very good value. I considered the utility trailer, but it isn't safe from a weight capacity standpoint and it doesn't have good provisions for securing the tractor to the trailer.

Just to clarify... the centerline to centerline distance between my front tires, R4s, is 3 feet.

MX125:

I rented one of those tandem car haulers to pick up a tractor once, and
what a pain it was! Like SAL2910, I got the tractor to load, but the front
tires were up on those channel lips. I also had to widen the tractor's
track just to get it loaded. That meant breaking loose the rear wheel
lugs (very hard) and switching them. This was a Kubota L2500. That
trailer's surge brakes did not work and it was absurdly heavy (2100#).

After that debacle, I have since had a tandem trailer made to my specs
for $1750....with electric brakes and smooth steel deck.

Well . .that is interesting! Nice to hear you got it to work. I think I will head out and take some careful measurements of my tractor. Whatever happens. . it's only 49 bucks if I decide I can't safely pull it off. Thanks for the input.

Sorry dfkrug. I answered before I got a chance to read your post. More food for thought. I could see all of those things happening actually. The specimin i measured at uhaul was not in perfect shape either. That is a good price on a custom trailer. Thanks again . . I'll keep looking.

If I could find a tandem trailer to haul my B7610 at $1750 it would have been in my back yard a year ago! All I've been able to find under $2500 is some home made stuff with questionable brakes. new (custom or off the lot) is closer to $4000 around here.
I'm tempted to try the U-haul this month as it cost me $230 for a weekend of a $70/day last fall. At $50 one way I can try it out at home and take it back if I don't like it. I have lots of 2x12's and may just park one side on those instead of on the lip. Backhoe swung sidways to help balance the load.
