Question: re: Breaking in new tractor & PTO

I have 20 hrs on the Kioti DK35 I received a couple of weeks ago. The "work" (i.e. play) has been grading, raking, and using the loader. I have not yet used the PTO.

I got thinking about the 50 hr service and changing all the oil and filters. Should I be running the PTO even if I don't need to? It would help break it in and dislodge any particles that may be around from the original machining. They would be cleaned up with the 50 hr filter change.

I likely will be using mowers before the 50 hr service but thought I'd ask the question anyhow.

no if you dont have pto equipment hooked to the pto,theres no reason to run the pto.

I think it would be wise to operate the PTO soon to just be sure it works.
You would think the dealer would have checked it but I can tell you for
sure that is not always so.
I tried the PTO on my U-5030 after about three weeks of plowing snow
and it would not turn. Called the dealer and he said, we will check
it out. After getting off the phone I was looking under the tractor and
found the PTO control switch was unplugged. Those conectors have lockes that do not come loose. After plugging it in with a sharp snap, it worked fine. I would say it came that way from the factory.
All dealers should check to be sure everything works but not all do.

You want to cause some ware, without a loaded PTO there would be little ware. Run the engine hard, use all the gear ranges and than do the 50 hr service. Torque all the nuts and bolts. If you can, take note of what you find in the filters.
