So I'm getting on in years and haven't the strength my mind tells me I have.

But....

I've got a fresh load of logs in the front yard, and a bunch of standing hemlock that need to lay down. A couple of them are good sized. Bigger around than my 18 inch bars will pass through.

Also I'm sick and tired of bending down so low to buck on the ground.

I'm thinking to get a longer bar! 'never had anything but 18" except on top handles.

I'm tending to 24"bar on the Husky 346xp . only a 50cc saw. But, I am in no hurry.

What I'm wondering, is if the longer bar becomes unyieldy to the point where not bending so much is not appreciated? Standing 6 inches back from the pile sound attractive until I want the dogs to bite. ;-)

What I do that helps on bending over is pick logs up with forks on a tractor. I’m not sure an extra little bit of bar length matters but I have no experience, both my saws have an 18” bar.

I've had 3 back surgeries and don't like bending over. I put a 28" bar on my 62CC John Deere CS62. Never buried it in a full cut on a standing tree. Used it for Chain Saw milling some but main use is/was trimming limbs on downed trees.
Just have to be careful and pick your battles.

I'm not a logger by any means, but I do know saws get heavy with longer bars. My 20" is about all I want to use for any length of time now that I'm getting older. I prefer the 20" bars from a previous life

It ain’t the size of the wand but the magic behind it. Small saws with longer bars cut a bit slower especially if you run full compliment. What ever saw I use I want balance.

I enjoy sawing too much for that.
