A balloon may not have been a good example. Difficulty of catching the object has nothing to do with energy.

Imagine two trials at catching in your hands a bowling ball dropped from 4 feet above you. One time the ball is dry and the other time it is greased. They have the same energy. The greased one will be harder to catch. But it has nothing to do with the energy of the falling ball.

I had two more containers dropped off today, Im paying 600 a month storage for a paint booth and other equipment and I want out of it.

I still cannot believe ( yes even with the response given here ) that a 2WD ( or 4WD F-250 or 350 ) can transport these things down the road safely and yet they do it every single day evidently.

In my opinion if someone were to brake check either one of these vehicles with these enormous containers on the rear then someone would become very hurt. In my opinion I do not think these smaller vehicles could possibly slow down in time to avert disaster because of the sheer size of their cargo.

I guess Im wrong but I still cannot agree with any of this.

BTW its a long story that neednt be gotten into but yes that is both shipping containers stuck in the sand with the trucks buried beyond their axles. It was a very long and unproductive weekend.

Both containers had to be dropped in the middle of my side yard, now I need to get a bulldozer ( that was supposed to be there this weekend but never showed up ) to move them to the pad Ive made about 100 ft away.

Last picture shows the size differences best between the towed and the tower. 40 ft HC

Those 40 foot ones weight between 8 and 9 thousands pounds. That is within the towing capacity of some of those heavy duty trucks.

The biggest danger would be wind toppling them sideways. Towing a 9,000 pound load plus the trailer is easily easily doable for a F-350.

From a trailer stability standpoint, as long as the weight is centered over the axle(s) it will behave the exact same as a much smaller volume, with the same mass, right over the axle. (Assuming you have a rigid enough trailer to take the distributed load). That is, size doesn't matter.

From an aerodynamics standpoint, if there is no wind, it will be almost - within practical reason, the same as pulling a load with the same cross-sectional area, but much shorter (i.e., as if the container were only 1 foot long). Again, no problem.

Now, where I think you could get in some BIG trouble is if there is any wind from the side. That is a tremendously large area (the side of the trailer) that under a cross wind could create all sorts of handling problems.

On a calm day, no problem. On a windy day, fraught with potentially life-altering consequences.

Towing yes but I was questioning the stopping in a panic scenario.
