Question for AnBo Grapple users

Have any of you had any problems while back raking with the AnBo grapple, bending the dump/curl cylinder rods

? Or do you have any sugestions

or tips to keep this from happening? This is on a Kubota M5040. Thank you for your help

I have done some backraking with 66" anbo light grapple on a NH TC40DA with no ill effects. But I haven't done much heavy raking with it.

Do you have the grapple all the way open when back raking? I am by no means an expert, but it seems to me if you are not opening it all the way it could put more stress on the cylinders. Just a thought.

SC: I have a Bodozer grapple, which is extremely similar to the Anbo. I have not had a problem of any kind. I think the issue, if one exists at all, has to do with two things . . . first, the depth you're trying to back rake at, and second, the angle the top half of the clam shell makes relative to the ground. If you keep the grapple fairly flat relative to the ground, I don't see much of a way to torque the curl cylinders. Obviously the unit can't be completely flat or you wouldn't be raking anything, but I avoid curling the top under real far (or real deep) when back raking. Most of what I'm doing is collecting brush debris residue which is lying on the ground, not buried in the ground, so the forces on my unit seem minimal.

Thank you for your response! I've been opening the grapple all the way up thinking that is the "right" way to back rake. However after my first post I went back and re read the AnBo manual. They say to open the grapple half way, or closed all the way (because the front tine come through the lower tines). So much for thinking

Your comments make sense! The flater grapple would make sure the rods are as far back into the cylinder causing less torque on the rod and cylinder. Thank you for your help

In the real world. How far open do you position your grapple when back raking? Also what angle do you guys use for the front tines? Any other advise? Thanks for your responses and help!!!!!!!

Hmmm...I have an ANBO Grapple on my M5040 and have abused it just about every possible way toting slash, backraking, ripping roots/stumps, and bulldozing. I didn't know you could break 'em.

This is great! Some one with the same tractor!

The AnBo Grapple does just fine. Where the problem comes in, is on the Kubota dump/curl cylinder. It happens when the cylinder rod is fully extended.

I'm wondering... when you back rake, do you have the grapple wide open? Half open? Or...? Do you position the the dump/curl in the full dump position? I'm curious, since you have had better success than I have. The M5040 is a great tractor and AnBo is a terrific attachment. I'm learning how they interface. Thank you for your help!!!

I usually leave the dump cyl. about half open when I back rake. It really depends on the material I'm raking on how agressive I am with the position. I also vary my speed accordingly.

I do like my M5040. I had an L3830, but found it to small for my needs. The 5040 handles everything I throw at it with ease.
