Question about greasing bushog

My bushog has about 5points to grease and the manual says to do it before every use. I grease all of them at the. First of the season but after that I only grease the tale wheel where it rotates in the frame and also grease the wheel bearings about every 5-6 hours. I probably cut about 30 hours per year. I only grease the u-joints and pto connections, and sliding bar at the first of the season.

Am I OK with this process or should I follow the manual and grease all points before each 3-4 hour cutting? What do you guys do?

I grease mine before the first mowing and again at about middle of the season. No problems in 33 years, I have a gearbox on mine I change the oil every 3-4 years or so, like you 30-40 hours a year use.

I did not grease the tailwheel bushing on my JD LX6 rotary cutter because the zerk was impossible to access. It started squealing on occasion and I ignored it. It did not take long before there was slop in the real wheel. When I removed it the rear wheel axle had wallowed out the hole in the rear wheel fork. To remove the fork on this particular JD you have to CUT the spindle cap off and then weld it back on!!. That was not going to happen so I JB Welded larger thick washers on either side of the hole, replaced the hard to reach zerk and now I grease it pretty regularly. It has been fine for a season of mowing but there is no way the JB Weld is going to last. When it breaks I will (real) weld the washers in place. There is almost nothing to hold the grease in the tailwheel axle and bushing so I do recommend greasing it fairly often. Maybe not every time, but pay attention to it.
