EdKing you have evidently put on 3pt implements before. Your list was hilarious /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.

Thanks Dozernut, it was one of those very very rare flashes of brilliance. Like I always say,

Practice.

I had an implement moving session yesterday, and have the busted knuckles to show for it. Time to put away the winter stuff and get out the dirt and grass equipment.

I have a small section of my barn which is divided in half, dogs on one side and implements on the other, 7' each. here we go:

Remove the 54" snowblower from the tractor so I can hose it down and grease it up.

Go to the barn and hook up the single bottom plow. Move it out onto the lawn and unhook it.

Go back to the barn and hook up the 5' 3ph mower. Move it out onto the lawn and unhook it.

Back the barn again and hook up the 4' Bush Hog. Out to the lawn and unhook.

Reconnect the blower and place it in the barn.

Go the garage and connect my old, small blower and place it in the barn in front of the new blower.

Reconnect the plow and place it in the barn.

Reconnect the Bush Hog and place it in the barn.

Connect my tiller and place it in the barn in front of the Bush Hog.

Connect my mower and move it and the tractor into the garage.

That's 9 hook-ups and 9 disconnects. It took an hour. I had planned to do some pre-season maintenance on the mower and brush cutter but I had had enough at that point.

Rob,
Make sure you attach the left side of the unit first, this allows you to adjust your other arm up and down to compensate for uneven ground. This depends on what side is adjustable.

I'm thinking you need something like they have at the drycleaners. A moving rack with all the implements hanging at the perfect hight. Push the button, hook up, raise the 3 point to lift it off the rack and go. Hmmmmm.../w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Just think of all the implements you could buy for the cost of a setup like that./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Yeah but it's all about toys..ah.. I mean tools isn't it?. It would probably be so much fun it would be hard to get any work done though. And heaven help you if any little boys ever got in the barn. The motor would be toast./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Best thing to have is another person to help you line up the tractor. Without such, you'll likely have to get on and off the tractor to move it a few times while lining things up. Not sure about moving the tractor much with the brakes on - mine is darn hard to move with the brake engaged (I tried a crowbar under a rear wheel, and maybe got an inch), and also not sure about leaving the tractor on (maybe a geared unit, but the hydro stuff can be a bit squirrelly, and I wouldn't want to get flattened). The point about putting on the adjustable link side first is right on. Sometimes, however, such as with my 1100 lb brush cutter, it is just a time consuming and strenuous task - my "weapons of persuasion" are a 6' crowbar and sledge hammer (as per a prior post - do not, not, kick a recalcitrant hitch when you become frustrated - [censored] near broke a toe last weekend). When I can afford a barn with a flat concrete floor, I'll make the dollies for each implement that so many in this forum swear by - right now I just have to envy them, and park my implements outside, on concrete blocks.

Sounds like you need an FEL to pick up implements AND a bigger barn. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I'm doing my best to put some money aside for a FEL. The dogs will finally have a proper kennel by the end of the spring so I can get them out of my barn. Hopefully that was the last episode of "shuffle that implement."

Hi Rob,

I just put on my tiller for the first time. What I did was back up until one of the lower arms was pretty well aligned. Raised and lowered the arm until it was vertically okay, then got off and just wiggled the tiller slightly to get the pin it. You'd be surprised how easy you can wiggle a 500+ lb. implement just a little bit. Then I adjusted the height of the rear arms, with the rockshaft lever, until the other looked pretty close, and did the same thing.. simply wiggled the implement until the pin would go in. After that, the top link is a cinch.. just extent or retract it until it's lined up.

Maybe I got lucky! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I've never had a problem, as long as I was willing to monkey around for a few minutes.

Getting the PTO shaft connected was a bit trickier.. because it didn't want to go on. A little help from this forum and I had it. Then I tilled a half-ache (typo.. was supposed to be a half-acre /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif) in no time at all. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Good luck.. let us know how you make out!

The best advice I can give is to go spend $30 on a six-foot digging bar. I use this when attaching implements to pry and move the implements around. It's surprising how easy it is to move a heavy implement with a little leverage.

Any special tricks for getting the PTO connected or knowing when it is on right?

With the new ROPS on my B6100 replacing the PTO shroud it is a VERY tight fit to get an implement hooked up to the PTO. What I found works for me in hooking up my tiller is the following:

1) I hook up the lower lift arms by like others have said, getting it clost and then "nudging" the tiller around until I can get them both hooked up. Leave the 3ph down (tiller resting on its tines).

2) Separate the two ends of the tiller PTO shaft at the "slip joint" splines. (I now have the tractor end of the PTO shaft, the U joing and about 6" of spline separated)

3) Hook up the tractor end of the PTO shaft. (much easier since the implement end is completely free - and only 6" long)

4) Roll the tiller back away from the tractor (It's pretty easy because it rotates around the tiller tines.), line up the slip joint and roll the tiller forward seating the slip joint.

5) Attach the top link (tiller will still easily rotate forward and back). and away I go.

Check the recent thread about PTO shaft attachment.. there was a lot of good advice given in that.

Bottom line for me was to determine which type I had (some have button to push, some have collars to pull), and then I used liberal amounts of a good grease on all surfaces. Finally it slipped right on. While applying the grease, you will also be making sure no little rocks or whatever might have ended up in the mechanism, and can examine it closely.

When it is on right, you won't be able to pull it off the tractor.. you will need to use the collar, button, etc., to remove it. Give it a good tug and make sure it's locked on there. Oh, make sure you have good footing before giving this good pull, just in case it isn't locked on correctly. Don't ask how I happen to think of mentioning this. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Expect to get very greasy, especially your first time.. and wear suitable clothing. Don't ask. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Bob
