Is there a good online store or nation-wide company that sells John Deere Parts or do all of you go through your local dealer?

I look up parts on JDParts, and get them at the dealer.

There are several dealers that list on eBay, and there is JDEquipment in London Ohio, that is the closest that I can think of as "national'

The reason I ask is because I just called a local dealer for about $1500 worth of parts and he quoted me list prices.

Do you find they always quote list price or should I expect a discount off of list? What sort of discount should I expect?

My experience with JD is that all pricing is regional - and within that parameter it depends on your relationship with the dealer.

My nearby JD dealer doesn't cut any slack to the people who buy JD mowers from Home Depot and then want him to drop what he's doing to service their mower. I don't blame him.

Did you buy your tractor from your local dealer? Do you buy all the fluids and misc parts from him? If you're shopping him just for parts you can't get anywhere else there's no incentive for him to give you discount pricing.

its the norm for dealers to charge list for parts, infact almost all dealers mark parts up over list.

One thing to ask is if you can get a break if you wait for the regular delivery truck otherwise they will put the charge in there for express shipping.

When it comes to parts, I feel that Deere is head and shoulders above the rest. Not only can you look up parts online, you can check stock at surrounding dealers, order, and see exploded diagrams of assemblies. You can keep your dealer honest by checking online what parts are suppossed to cost. Some dealers will give a discount if ordering a high dollar item but some also charge a shipping fee depending on shipping costs.

The prices that you see are the ones from your local dealer, Deere is not showing you their MSRP. Notice you have to login before it shows pricing - this is why. Deere does have a great system. I know one of our other venders is working on launching somthing simular very soon.

Parts are pricey. Your dealer has easily tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars tied up, a catalog system with supercedences and qualified personnel, storage facilities, and shipping. The cost to produce a part is a small factor in what it takes to have a timely supply of the parts that you and I need.

So Neil did you bump your head? Its so much more fun when we get to yell at you (just kidding! great points, buddy!)

The parts and service department is what keeps your local dealers doors open. Don't expect any wholesale discounts in those areas. Think of it as keeping them in business.
