Is there a good online store or nation-wide company that sells John Deere Parts or do all of you go through your local dealer?

I look up parts on JDParts, and get them at the dealer.

There are several dealers that list on eBay, and there is JDEquipment in London Ohio, that is the closest that I can think of as "national'

The reason I ask is because I just called a local dealer for about $1500 worth of parts and he quoted me list prices.

Do you find they always quote list price or should I expect a discount off of list? What sort of discount should I expect?

My experience with JD is that all pricing is regional - and within that parameter it depends on your relationship with the dealer.

My nearby JD dealer doesn't cut any slack to the people who buy JD mowers from Home Depot and then want him to drop what he's doing to service their mower. I don't blame him.

Did you buy your tractor from your local dealer? Do you buy all the fluids and misc parts from him? If you're shopping him just for parts you can't get anywhere else there's no incentive for him to give you discount pricing.

One thing to ask is if you can get a break if you wait for the regular delivery truck otherwise they will put the charge in there for express shipping.

its the norm for dealers to charge list for parts, infact almost all dealers mark parts up over list.

When it comes to parts, I feel that Deere is head and shoulders above the rest. Not only can you look up parts online, you can check stock at surrounding dealers, order, and see exploded diagrams of assemblies. You can keep your dealer honest by checking online what parts are suppossed to cost. Some dealers will give a discount if ordering a high dollar item but some also charge a shipping fee depending on shipping costs.

The prices that you see are the ones from your local dealer, Deere is not showing you their MSRP. Notice you have to login before it shows pricing - this is why. Deere does have a great system. I know one of our other venders is working on launching somthing simular very soon.

Parts are pricey. Your dealer has easily tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars tied up, a catalog system with supercedences and qualified personnel, storage facilities, and shipping. The cost to produce a part is a small factor in what it takes to have a timely supply of the parts that you and I need.

So Neil did you bump your head? Its so much more fun when we get to yell at you (just kidding! great points, buddy!)

The parts and service department is what keeps your local dealers doors open. Don't expect any wholesale discounts in those areas. Think of it as keeping them in business.

I have had to buy some parts from my dealer and I thought the prices where fair.

The actual parts for the tractor I bought I think where fairly priced. I have cheap plastic door on my truck's overhead that Ford wants something like $30 for a $1 part. I had to buy a new housing for fuel filter. The package included the part I needed as well as a new fuel bowl and maybe a filter for $40ish.

I have had to replace hydraulic lines on my 4n1 bucket. My dealer was about $20. NAPA down the road was $30.

I buy my oil, air, and fuel filters for my Ford truck from my JD dealer. His prices are what I would pay at the parts store and the JD dealer always has what I need in stock which is more than I can say for the numerous parts stores I used to stop at until I found what I needed. My dealer mails the filters to me for about $5.

I guess I got a good dealer. :)

Later,
Dan

I should have clarified the parts I was talking about. I was pricing a mounting frame for a 59" Front Mount Snow Blower for a 3320. The list price total for these parts is around $1500. If I would have purchased it with the tractor, they would have been discounted. However, since I'm purchasing it after the fact, the discount no longer applies. I just thought that they may be inclined to discount the parts ever so slightly since I just purchased my tractor from there. I guess that's just how the game is played.

Other than this big ticket item, I have found the parts to be reasonably priced and usually in stock.

As an example, I was at my dealers the other day and I asked how much a cutting edge was for my 59SB. It's a good size chunk of steel with slotted holes all through it, so it priced out at around $80. The part that amazed me was they actually had one in stock.

Yeah. on one hand, be sure to get all that you can added to the original sale.. But then, you can't 'afford' it!

When buying big ticket partrs, sometimes Deee sends out special deals that help sweeten the deal....

For now, I have decided against purchasing the new framework for a couple of reasons. One, the price is outrageous. Two, I don't like the new 59SB framework for the 3320; I much prefer the older method of doing it as found on the 55 and TEN series. I'm going to try to adapt the framework for the 955 to my tractor. I think it can be done with a few custom brackets. I may need a different PTO shaft as well.

Sometimes there is just a difference in dealers. A few years ago my father priced new ujoints for our 650. They were $93 and $107. He decided not to buy. I had bought a new mower that summer from a dealer about 10 miles further away. We decided to price the ujoints at my new dealer. I don't remember the exact cost but they ended up being a little over $45 a piece. JC
