Hello,

Looking for advice on a new Kubota tractor. I am maintaining an 80 acre farm in northern Michigan. Planting an orchard, putting up fencing, bush hogging old fields, as well as various landscaping projects, trenching, tree clearing, snow plowing.

Would the M62TLB be appropriate or should I be looking at the M series?

With the work you have described, the M62TLB would be your best choice. It is specialized to do exactly the kinds of work you have listed. I would recommend that you include a thumb for the backhoe and a grapple for the front loader bucket.

On the other hand, if your use for the tractor is primarily traditional farming, ranching, and growing crops then you would be best served with the traditional Ag tractors like the larger M series Ag tractor.

Heck ya! If money of was no issue, and I only wanted one machine to maintain, that is probably the exact machine I would have for those tasks.

rScotty is right about the hydraulic thumb and 3rd function remote/grapple. I would also have 2 or 3 rear remotes.

Just how much work do you have for the backhoe?

For backhoe and loader work, the M62 is the best kubota has to offer and is better than any attachment that can be had on a M.

However there are some key differences between it and a M.

1. Dont know if its still true, but the TLB series of kubotas, L39, L45, L47, M59, M62, etc used to not be able to remove the loader. I find jobs like plowing, discing, mowing, etc to be a PITA with the loader on.

2. Tires. Specifically the size of them. A comparable sized "ag" tractor (M-series) will typically have larger tires. Larger tires roll easier and make a smoother ride and have less ground compaction. And usually the tires are adjustable (width).

So just what do you have in mind when you say "maintain an 80 acre farm"?

The tree removal, trenching, anything related to digging in the dirt, then yea the M62 is the best.

But if any of these "farm related" chores involve row crop farming, plowing, discing, ALOT of mowing, etc. Then perhaps a larger M-series would be better suited.

There is no one machine that is the best at everything. A machine can be the best at a few things, but everything else would be a compromise. So you have to weigh just hoe much loader backhoe work you have vs all the rest of the chores that would be better served with a Ag tractor and go from there
