The screech is usually the relief valve - backing it off a bit is the right thing to do.

If it's your 3 point, there should be an adjustable link that you can set so it doesn't hit relief when the hitch is empty and at the top. Check for something like that. Pumping the oil over relief generates a lot of heat so it is best to get it all adjusted so you don't accidentally forget and run with the oil going over relief.
