If you don't have a one way check valve in the motor circuit, I can see where the volume and pressure from an accumulator in the circuit could slow or stop the motor.

How about if another hyd pump would keep the accumulator charged, but dump into the splitter circuit. You could perhaps continue with splitting but at a more rapid pace, especially on the firewood processors.

There is a story behind this question, but I would like to hear some thoughts on this.
LD1 nailed it down pretty well...another issue is OSHA...an "ack" is a ticking "bomb" in the hands of unexperienced logsplitter users..
Ack will take "cycle" time and flow capacity (larger pump)to charge...will also need MAJOR redesign of entire system...

the only application I can see is for an inertial powered splitting process, since an ack can launch its power within a very short time...high speed...

I an assuming that you are using [ ack ] as an accumulator. Is that a common abbreviation, or a standard?

As the story goes, he did not expect that kind of power, and did a redesign. I could perhaps see a regulated accumulator, letting out as much fluid to get the job done, not all of it at one time.

I've worked with one and I did like it at the time.
Since then I've used the hydraulic vertical/horizontal type and I prefer it in the vertical mode.
I just set aside the first nice parallel cut log for a seat and settle in (-:

JJ Morning, Question about accumulators.

Now I been reading about hydraulics. (still consider myself an idiot when it comes to hyd) Help me out with this. What I read said, "When the cylinder slows, for any reason, the pump is still pumping at design flow. Hoses swell and the pump starts cavitating and pitting occurs,(vane pumps I think) and damage results". The article states, accumulators will increase efficiency and reduce wear during heavy loading.
What am I missing between this thread and the stuff I am reading.

Dave, I would add. Most people will typically see accumulater on a variable flow, closed center system. Like industrial type construction equipment, or factory settings.
