So, should the PTO speed selector be as simple as pulling the spring loaded knob (while the tractor is not running, I assume?) and moving it to either the low, medium, or high speed setting?

On my 485 DI, I have been rattling the heck outta my brush hog (standard duty Grizzly 6'). I saw that the PTO was on the HI setting (around 1000 rpm, per the manual, IIRC), so I moved it to the middle setting. At that setting, the PTO doesn't turn at all, but move it back to the HI and it runs great. Am I missing something? Doesn't want to go into the LOW setting at all. Any experience?

Went back to the barn today at lunch, and the &^%$ selector popped right into low speed with no issues, so maybe ??? it was just bound or something in there? Have not set it on that in quite a while, maybe that was the deal. Anyhow, I DID run it once since last trying it, so wonder if maybe the clutch was just somehow keeping it from settling just right.

Am I talking to myself here? Again?

After reading about several of you tractor woes, I've concluded; you are your own best mechanic. You need to buy, and use more lubricants, more often. Start with your linkages. Those are often neglected until problems such as yours arise. :)

I would tend to agree. Well, at least on some of the previous problems, which could have been diagnosed early on without all the drama. Now, on the PTO selector lever issue, nothing to lube there, so I'm gonna give myself a pass.... :D

BTW, you a Ducks fan? Several years back, Mississippi State signed on to play them. We were pretty cocksure at the time, and it came as a real surprise when they came into Starkville and cleaned our clocks for us. So, we did what any self respecting SEC team would do. We didn't re-sign them again....

Some folks in Oregon are Duck fans, and I don't dislike the U of O, Ducks. For some reason Ive always been partial to the Oregon State Beavers.
