Wondering if anyone knows where to get pto shaft stock from and how to measure it so you get the right stuff? I know new pto shafts aren’t too expensive but wondering if I can get some driveshaft stock & repair this for less.

My spline fittings / joints are fine, looks like there is a roll pin to release the shafts. Previous owner of implement had a smaller tractor, so I went to use this today on my logging winch and when not perfectly aligned behind tractor, not long enough. So of course it slipped out and got monkeyed up.

Some farm parts supply businesses have pto repair tubes/shafts. Agri-supply is one business that comes to mind. There are several U-tube videos I've viewed that explain correct method for establishing correct lengths of the telescoping pto driveshaft components. Where I live a local machine shop stocks miscellaneous pto driveshaft components.

I ground the welds between the PTO shaft and universal, on one of my PTO shaft assemblies, to remove the shaft extrusion and replace with longer sections. It was a pretty easy job, and also gave me the chance to catch and replace a bad bearing in one of the universal assemblies. In my case, the shaft assembly would have been unreasonably expensive (something like $650 or $700), so rebuilding was far cheaper.

In my case, the shaft stock wasn't one of the more common sizes, so I called the equipment manufacturer to find out where they bought their shafts. Then I called that shaft manufacturer to buy a 4 foot length of shaft stock (both halves). I think the total repair for shaft and bearing was under $120, and was done in two or three hours, re-painting of the universals at both ends included.

update: the driveline stock is called trilobe, there are several different classes so measurement is important. I found it at Quality Farm Supply out of Arkansas - inner and outer sleeve plus shipping for about a hundred bucks. Thanks everyone!!
