PTO shaft shield

   / PTO shaft shield #11
I have NEVER read a post where it has been said - "OH, my - the shaft and shield removal was so very easy. A piece of cake". These two items are a very carefully engineered PITA.

Fortunately - I have only one implement that uses a PTO - chipper. I remove the shaft when my spring time chipping is complete. Pull it in half - clean, lube, reassemble. I grease the U-joints at this time also. Carefully wrap in a big towel - store in the spare bedroom in the house.

Even with all this tender, loving care - it can still be a REAL PITA to connect up in the spring.

Couldnt no pto shaft expect better care than that. You are to be commended for this.

I have a bushog I only use for myself. It takes 14-16 hours to do my land, which I do 5-6 times per year.

Per the manual I am to lube the u joints every 8-10 hours.

That *##!!% shield met an xacto knife for a while to allow me to ATTEMPT to lube it. After cutting myself a few times on the home I had created, it finally met its demise.
