3-Point Hitch PTO RPM question

2nd ..... Warning ... this is probably going to sound like a dumb question.

I have a LS XR3135HC. On my last tractor (to remain nameless) when I switched on the PTO, the dash changed from engine RPM to PTO rpm. My LS does not seem to do that. I have implements that say I'm supposed to run them at 540rpm (PTO). Is there a way I can tell what my PTO RPM is? Like a chart converting the engine RPM to the PTO speed?

Never mind. I found the chart near the very end of the manual that converts the engine speed to PTO speed. 2509 engine RPM = 540 PTO RPM
For those looking (like me) it's the part that talks about the shaft dimensions and such. Never thought to look there for operation info.

++++The only thing I noticed in the manual is that the pto is rated for 540rpm. Does that mean it always runs at 540 regardless of engine rpm?

The tractors I've operated have a mark on the tachometer that indicates the 540 rpm point. Your operator's manual will tell you at what engine rpm that will be. Also, most implements can be run at lower rpms. For example, I have a concrete mixer that I run at engine idle speed, but the mower I run at full rpms.

The manual will inform you of what tach rpm = 540 PTO rpm, which will also be peak torque for your engine.
This is very basic information. It is there.

On my JD 2025R, I really do not need the hp it has available except for dirt digging. For shredding/chipping and bush hog work, I run it at 2500 rpm vs. "PTO" speed of 3000. Works fine.

My Kubota didn't tell me either...but after reading the owner's manual I found the procedure to change the dash to read PTO rpm.

Usually peak HP almost never peak pound feet of torque.
Torque peak is usually several hundred rpm under HP peak.

My Xr4155HC has the Engine RPM that results in a 540 PTO RPM indicated on the tachometer-I’m surprised that yours does not.

I'm going to take a closer look today. If there is an indicator, it's not an obvious one. Of course, I was so busy fiddling with buttons to see if the digital readout would change to PTO that I easily could have missed it on the tach.

On my Kubota, it doesn't have any indication on the tach what RPM matches with the 540 PTO, but instead you have to switch screens to the PTO screen and it will show you what your RPM is for the PTO.

Both my Ferguson and Mahindra have analog tach with a mark and notation at 540 PTO RPM, simple is best for us old timers. It seems that many machines these days are built for young tech savvy people who are accustomed to scrolling through a menu.

I took a look at a XR3100 series owners manual (page 3-3) and it indicates the tractor has an analog tach. The engine RPM at which PTO is at 540 RPM is labeled at just above the 2400 RPM mark.

The XR series does not have a PTO speed sensor so you won't be able to bring it up on the cluster.

Your tach should show a yellow mark at 2400 rpm to indicate PTO speed. But as you have discovered the cluster does not match true PTO rpm of 2509.

Unless you are running a speed sensitive attachment, such as a generator, it's alright to be a little off the 540 rpm.

For your tractor the engine is rated at 35hp at 2600 rpm and torque is 88 ft-lbs at 1600 rpm.

My tractor has 3 PTO settings, 540, 7xx, 1000.
When snow blowing on 540 it is pathetic so I have been using the 7XX setting for ever and no problems so far.
Just a few weeks ago I replaced all the blower bearings and drilled the fan to add wipers while I had it all apart.
From what I've seen over the web wipers seem to be a great improvement.
