PTO Ratio

I have a 2360 with mid and rear PTO. When I use the rear PTO with my tiller the max rpm for the tiller is 500rpm. Does anyone know the rear PTO ratio? At what rpm do I run the engine to get 500rpm at the rear PTO?

If I can find the ratio I will know what to run each attachment to get the best performance.

Look in your manual for where 540 is on your tach and divide it by 540 voila

540rpm for PTO = tach/engine rpms
500rpms for tiller

tach/engine rpms / 540 * 500 = tach rpms

example 3000 tach rpms = 540 pto rpms

3000 / 540 * 500 = 2777 RPMs on the tach.

540rpms vs 500 rpms... i don't think 40 more RPM's is going to cause tiller to be destroyed. i would say marketing or someone lazy. just stated 500rpms

540rpms is default setting for rear 3pt hitch PTO's and normally marked. when set at the little notch / marking on the RPM/tach on the tractor.
--what makes rear 3pt hitch PTO's universal on all tractors is relying on all tractors can turn the PTO shaft at 540 RPM's and most tach meters from manufacture have the tick / mark on the tach meter for that 540 RPMs

Thanks for the info. I don't have a tick on my tach. It's a digital read out, with no way to tell when I was at the right rpm for an atachment. The only indication I had was for the fron snow blower. The manual said to run at WOT. But nothing for the rear PTO.

Checked the manual and nothing there on engine to PTO ratio. Now I know, thanks again.

Generally PTO RPM is around 75-85% throttle. Running an attachment 15-20% is extremely unlikely to cause any problems. Between those 2 factors I wouldn't worry to much, you are unlikely to cause any problems no matter what throttle you are at.
