I got a 2 year old Honse bush hog but the pin for the PTO to attatch it to the tractor spline shaft is missing.. I went to our local farm supply store and the don't have anything long enough to fit the PTO. Any thought where I could get one of these. I will need the pin a spring and a cetain size washer that holds the pin in the PTO shaft.

Unless Howse has a proprietary pin, I'm surprised your farm store didn't have one. Or doesn't yours look like this

no it doesn't look like that. It is a pin , Spring ands washer that is built into the PTO Female spline receiver. The shaft on my tractor doesnt have a hole through it so I have to have a pin that locks the PTO receiver into the spline shaft on the tractor.

You may have to get that from a dealer or even Howse. How did that come out? I don't think it is proprietary to Howse but it may be unique to the mfr of the Pto Drive Shaft .. call your dealer or Howse.

That might be sorta tough to find. Not impossible, but it's going to take some leg work.

I'd remove the shaft and take it with you and just start hitting the tractor stores.

I've seen some JD's that use that flat/round pin method of spring pin.. push down to reveal a flat that lets the pto pass. then release and the round portion comes uop and lockes into the groove ont he pto.. etc.

Not sure why some manufacturers don't put a hole in their pto stubs...

I don't think that type of pin is specific to Howse, but the size of the pin may be. I know some of their mowers have a crazy metric size u-joint that has to be used unless you modify the yolks and shafts.

I'd do as suggested and hit the tractor shops and a Howse dealer if you have one nearby.

I just went through the same problem with my 4' Rhino. My pin was inserted after the spring was put in and then the top edge of the hole was "crimped" over to prevent the pin from coming out. I took my PTO shaft to a local tractor store and he was able to come up with a spring/pin set. I cleaned out the hole that the pin went in with my dremel tool and then inserted the spring and pin. I crimped the edge by hammering a star bit on the hole and then pushed over a small retaining edge with a punch. Worked great.

My supply house said that the PTO shaft was probably from a Howse. If you can't find one, post back on the board and let me know. It cost me about $5 to replace mine. Can you post a pic on the board to show the yoke/hole?

Enclosed is a picture of both side of the PTO shat where the pin goes In. As you can see one side is very small and the other side is quite large. If any one has some suggestions where I can get a pin kit for this thing let me Know. I will need the two sized pin , spring and the washer which needs to be inserted in the groove for it and have the cast punched to hold it in.

I'm gonna suggest that it might be easier just to replace that half of the yoke, rather than waste time and fuel looking for just the locking pin hardware. PTO driveline components (to include yokes) are available at most full service farm stores too.

I am in the take that end in too the old tractor store (I am lucky enough to have a good one down the street) and they should have the little pin repair kit there. I know my dealer has about half a dozen different size / types sitting there on the counter I play with when I go in.

I believe I saw those kits in TSC as well, but the selection was very limited.

TSC's website lists 6 different repair kits and they have a good selection of yokes. What they actually have in the store can be pretty hit or miss. I'd call them and ask them to check by SKU and if they don't have it ask them to order it. My store usually takes about 3 days.
