PTO hookup- Is it just me?

I make it a rule to never hook up a PTO with the engine running ... so that said most al the tractors I have worked with allowed at least a small amount of rotation and usually that was enough to align the PTO slots with the implement’s shaft and if not, just use a tire iron and rotate the implement’s shaft and side it on. Keep the surfaces lubricated and it works much better than no lubrication. Keep pushing the implement shaft toward the PTO shaft and you will feel when they align … some times they seem to just want to fight your efforts!

If I turn my kubota off, then you can turn the pto by hand.

I'm assuming that nobody is foolish enough to enage a PTO shaft with the tractor running. Ever see a rotating shaft accident? If a rotating shaft ever grabs a piece of your clothing the slap you will feel will make getting hit in the head with a 100 mph fastball feel like a pat on the back. They are one of the most serious type of injuries right up there with getting crushed and cut in half.

Comming from a guy who doesn't have PTO shieldson some of his equipment, but definately keeps his distance,
