Hi,
Here is a link http://http://chiselapp.com/user/jschimpf/repository/PTOHelper/index to some tools that make attaching a PTO much easier. There is a stencil that marks the splines for easier alignment and a 1/2" socket that allows you to easily jog the tractor shaft. These are built with a 3D printer, your local library or community college probably has one that you can use for cheap.

my tractor that has the electronically controlled PTO doesn't allow me to move the tractor pto shaft at all. I can usually rotate the shaft on whichever implement I'm using though....

the thing I hate about hooking up the PTO on my new tractor is that enclosed box around the PTO shaft that makes you have to be a contortionist to be able to get into a position you can reach in there far enough to actually hook it up. getting very close to just taking that silly thing off. I've owned and run tractors for the better part of my life that didn't have those. Yes I know it's a 'safety feature' blah blah blah....

Mine came off the first time I had to use the PTO. It hangs on a post in my barn
