Hello all , Im new here , but have read some great info on this site. I have an issue with a 7520 pto engagement. I bought the tractor with 392 hours on the meter. when I connected a sprayer pump to fight some fire , the pto worked fine. Today I hooked up my brush hog and engaged the pto and got an awful grinding or ratcheting sound. I pulled the shaft and turned it to the 1000 rpm shaft and felt that the gears werent engaging correctly. The rear end looks like its been gone into before , and I have not contacted the dealer as of yet. Does anyone know if there is a problem with this system? Should it be covered under warranty? Its a 2009 model with 427 hours. My tractor does not have the pto on/off lever , just the pto engagement lever. Any info or ideas would help a lot. Thanks.

Your tractor probably has a dual foot clutch... and is probably in need of adjustment. Check your owners manual, it should outline the process. You should also engage/disengage the PTO at low RPM whenever possible. Since it is a used tractor, you don't know how the previous operator abused it... Hopefully... the clutch adjustment is all you need..... :)

7520s have a pto clutch lever that you throw before engaging the pto. After pto gear is engaged, you release the pto clutch lever to start the output stub.
