Any experience with a PTO generator on a B2400? How would such a set up compare with a portable generator?

My neighbor has a PTO set up for an 80hp Agco. The tractor idles and powers the house with the generator. The generator sits on a palette about 5 ft from the tractor (it's not on the 3pt).

I have a second neighbor that must run his 60hp JD diesel at pto speed. Makes for a noisey experience.

From what I can tell, all generator heads run at about 3000 RPM. So my Agco neighbor must have a gear box to increase the shaft speed. Or maybe a 2 speed PTO. Either way, I like the fact the engine sits at a quiet, non-gas-guzzling rpm.

I've often thought about this sort of arraingment for my B2400. The way I see it, a gearbox with 1850 input and 3200 output should be about right.

One other thing I've noticed about this kind of set up, buying a PTO driven generator is a lot more expensive than buying a 10hp, 5500Watt portable. Maybe if the generator head were purchased separately and then the whole thing cobbled together the prices would come out even?
