Hi there,

Ive just got a diesel Ferrari 330 (could be similar to a BCS 730 i see) , and for the first couple of days it worked fine.

But now the PTO will not engage consistently, ie sometimes i cant get it to engage, sometimes i can. SOmetimes i really cant, so i have to stop work.

Any top tips out there?

Apart from check/ change the oil that is. Just been serviced and levels are good.

Works fine when working, got a flail head on it and this is working fine , done lots of good work with it in the short time ive had it. The drive through this is fine , its the actual pto on the machine thats not having it.

Top Gear Top Tip -

Do you feather the clutch? The PTO is engaged by sliding an internally splined shaft over an externally splined shaft. If the splines are against each other, they'll never engage. You don't want to grind the gears, just slightly move them to get them to line up.

Top Gear is a guilty pleasure of mine. Love them morons! Too bad, they have one or two accurate insights on Americans.... Just one or two...

I've got a Ferrari 340 diesel, occasionally the PTO doesn't want to engage. What I do (not necessarily technically correct) is push the PTO lever in as I very slowly let out the clutch... it may not be the best but it works for me...

Thanks for your replies guys, I took the back off the gearbox, one of the wee balls had come out of the spring which locates the PTO engagement lever. Got it all together Gain and it works fine. Many thanks to Mark at kilwoth for his advice too.
That top gear's not the best advert for Britain, but it is one of the few things that actually make any money I ey for the BBC!
Gonna be a lot mode gentle with the clutch and shifter from now on I reckon
