What is the proper tire pressure supposed to be (425)? To say the manual is lacking is an understatement. Also, since there is little to no chatter on the www for the EH72 engine, does anyone know the basic settings for the carb? Mine is, well, fine but probably could be a bit richer.

Thanks,
Jon

When I had a gravel driveway I found the bar tires worked better than the ag tires. Just for kicks I used my 14 hp walk behind leaf blower yesterday on the asphalt driveway. It actually worked pretty well and the driveway was completely cleared when I was done.

No one knows.

I usually run around 10psi. But one of my tires leaks now, so that one gets 25 hoping I finish before it goes flat. :ROFLMAO:

I've taken to tubing any of my tires if they start losing air on a regular basis.

And I noticed my 24 year old tires are getting a bit cracked, so may be time for another set to last until my impeding death (at a date to be determined later, much later, if I'm lucky).

So I finally made it out in the 425 today to move some wet piles, it did a quicker job than I expected. The 60" plow worked very well but the weight of the snow created a traction issue. I have turf tires and an asphalt drive that is starting to blow apart. What have some of you snow state PT owners done for a little extra traction? Lower tire pressure? Chains? Rubber tire chains? Loaded tires?
What has worked well for me to clear snow of any kind with either small or large bucket:
  1. two of my wheels (turf tires) are filled with RimGuard. They are on the front in the winter, and on the rear in the summer.
  2. My PT-1430 has Draft functionality. Seems to make a noticeable difference when dialed in.
I also have a rounded cutting edge: https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums...e-attachments-improvements.99668/post-4358521 .

Hope this helps!

We finally got enough snow last night to plow snow. We got about 10 inches of light powder snow on top of an inch of wet snow. Got the pt 422 out and started pushing it, luckily it was light snow . I plowed my driveway and parking area and a road to my shed up the hill with no traction problems (turf tires) . I don't think ag tires would have done as good but I have no way of comparing the two.

We've had some snow recently. I decided to use my large bucket this year instead of the plow. Takes an extra pass or two down the drive, but otherwise not much different. Scrapes the asphalt nice and clean.

I've tried a number of things over the years for snow:

Tire chains work great. Relatively cheap and easy to install, but a bit rough on paved surfaces.

I really like the Carlisle All Trail tires instead of the standard turf tread tires. They give much better traction in mud and snow but are still easy on turf. Here is a picture of them.

The best option I have found for snow work is narrower and taller tires with an ATV style tread pattern. I am using Carlise AT 489 tires size 25x8.00-12 on 12 x 4 rims. I bought the tires and rims at fleet farm. I could not find any rims with a lug hole small enough for the lug bolts on a power trac. I ended up buying longer lug bolts and drilled out the thread of larger tapered lug nuts to mount the rims to the wheel hub. You can kind of see the lug bolts/lug nuts in the picture.

I've been using mine to plow my 1/4 mile stone gravel drive which has some steep parts and as Moss mentioned it's the crabbing that gets you.....once you angle the blade to shed the snow to the side it changes the axis of gravity on a center articulated machine so the back end wants to go one way and the front end wants to go another way.....I've got AG tires and I put chains on the rear tires which pretty much minimizes the crabbing.....the tall boys differ from the low boys in that I've got steel fenders over each wheel and there is only enough clearance between the fender and the tire to put chains on the rear wheels....chains won't fit on the front tires.......my model also has the backhoe mounted on the rear so that may give added weight to help with traction......with a regular snow it handles 12" without a problem, wet heavy snow 8" but I'll struggle with the 20" drops that happen every now and then
