PT425 lift capacity

/ PT425 lift capacity #21
here is a left over from my horse days, a little drip of borium on the end of the any kind of digging tool such as cutting edge on FLN buckets, back hoe teeth will prolong the ability to use them even longer. the borium was good on the pocket book in the horse business, less wear and tear of horse shoe but many more problems with lamness.

on dirt tip the bucket down so that the rock teeth are vertical, and scrape along like a large HD rake.

This dirt was so hard that when I did that, the front end comes off the ground and the tires will spin. Almost rock like dirt. The leading edge of my large bucket is sharpened. I'll consider sharpening the rock teeth.

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Are you sure that you are not trying to dig in that wide patch of black dirt with the yellow lines down the middle!!??!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I noticed a couple more differences between the newer models and mine.

The area at the very front of the tractor appear to be a little different. The shelf across the front on mine is straight across (here's a picture), and yours seems to be recessed a bit.

The bolts that hold the lift arms on are in a different position than mine. They appear to be flipped 180. Is there any way you could take a picture similar to the one I of mine? That way I could compare them side by side and maybe we could see how they accomplished the higher lift capacity.

Also, you have square headlights. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

well i found out the lift capacity of my 425 today . my son left his 1979 chevy parked in my driveway and as it is broke down i went to lift the arse end and push it down to the back yard well it did lift the back end up maybe two inches off the driveway and pushed it through the gates . now i just have to find out what the arse end weighs and ideas /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

That depends on if it is a 79 chevette or 79 pickemup truck! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've got a 1985 chevy pickemup. 1/2 ton 4X4. My PT will not lift the rear end of that off the ground. I tried it. The rear of the PT comes off the ground. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The Front Shelf is 21-1/4" x 10-3/4" with a 4" x 13-5/8" cutout. Why??? I have no idea, but it is kinda cute!!

The Lifting Cylinders from A to Z are 14-1/2".
The Lifting Arms are 36" cl bolt to cl bolt.

The custom lights will be addressed in a future " PT-425 PROS & cons?? ".

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif For a few dollars I bought a Hydraulic Floor Jack at WalMart that picks up my SUV just fine!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I think using a Jack like that would be a handier way to pick up the rear of your PT than using the 1985 chevy pickemup!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Since this thread is "PT425 lift capacity", here are a few pictures of what The Great And Powerful Grapple Bucket will do!!

This Log is 13" x 18'-7" long! Notice that it is being lifted and held without my butt on the seat. The bucket is in the full down position so that the log is being held only by the grip of the grapple teeth!! This position has the greatest lifting capacity because the log is closest to the front wheels. With the log locked in the grapple jaws I can confidently move over the uneven forest floor zig-zagging between the trees.

As stated earlier, there is more to consider about lifting than just how many pounds!! I'm just showing off!! Normally I would cut that log in half and then move it! Or lift a log 18" x 9', or 23" x 6'!

I'm not sure what the actual weight limit is, but the PT-425 will lift what I need lifted, most of the time, and that is what counts! I am sure that there are plenty of big tractors that can lift more, but not go where I can go and do what I can do!!

Since this thread is "PT425 lift capacity", here are a few pictures of what The Great And Powerful Grapple Bucket will do!!

When the trees are too close together to zig-zag between, turn the log sideways, drop it, grab it between the teeth and the center fang of the grapple, and drag it anywhere you want! The PT-425 has plenty of power, and with the bite of the bar tires, it drags up, down, over and out, going over rocks, smaller logs and branches, and through a debris filled ditch without hesitation!! And without ever leaving the driver's seat!!

Now it's time to grab that entire tree top and move it over to be burned or chipped! Notice that it is completely off the ground being held by the grapple teeth and fangs!!

Moving with this load held high wasn't at all tipsy due to the low, wide stance of the PT. (Even so, I drive with one hand on the suicide knob, and the other on the joystick, ready to drop the load should something unusual happen.)

Someone could do some of this work with just Forks or a Bucket, but it would be hard, real hard!!

PS: That's my daughter posing behind the wheel! Yesterday Lara, 26, won a Gold Medal in Team Basketball at the North Carolina Special Olympics!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Fourteen. Thanks for the pics.

So the square lights are your own custom modification then? And I assume the same for the amber warning light on the back. Did you add a reverse warning beeper too?

What's with the paint job? Is that your work too? Looks awesome!

/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I take all the credit, and all the blame!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yes!! The reverse warning beeper sounds like this: "HEY!! GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!!" It seems to work quite well!!

Now we clamp on the Stump Grinder for that finishing touch!

well it is a 79 pickem up truck 2 wd not sure of what it weighs but it is heavy my 425 also has that small cutout area between the lift cylinders not sure of why they did that surely not to save money on the steel prices .i also like the photos of the log lifting with the grapple bucket i honestly didnt think that bucket would have been that strong after seeing it at tazewell , owell never judge a book by its cover /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

ohhh yeah mr i also have the added benefit or detriment of weighing 320 lbs wonder if that has anything to do with it all that extra counterweight /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

ok im not the smartest guy on here but exactley what is borium and how and where do you get it /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That is a pretty big log, I don't have a grapple bucket but I use my minie hoe to stack brush. If you had a choice of a grapple bucket verses a grapple forklift which would you choose.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "grapple fork lift"!

I do have Forks for my PT, and have moved some logs with them, but it is a continual balancing act. I wouldn't have been able to move that big log over the rough forest floor non-stop and feel as safe and secure as I did!! Because of their lighter weight, the Forks can lift a little more, but then what!!??!! Brush?? Forget it!!

When you buy the Grapple Bucket, you get a HD Bucket with Rock Teeth for free! It also works well as a Man Lift! Needless to say the Grapple Bucket is the favorite
of my 7 attachments, and is used for ~80% of my jobs!
