As this is the first Deutz engine powered piece of equipment I've owned, I'm very much in the steep part of the learning curve. The used PT1850 I purchased had a cracked "Blower Jacket" with most of the outer ring missing from an apparent accident backing into something and denting the rear of the motor cover grill.

I ordered a replacement blower jacket, which showed up with a "Flat Gasket" which is a split rubber band which fits around the bottom of the blower jacket where the belt should enter and exit as it runs up and around the fan pulley. The blower jacket looks to be the right one. And the blower jacket clearly is set up for the "flat gasket" at the bottom with hooks and pins to hold it in place.

Apparently the belt is supposed to run up through the slit and then back down through the slit. But, that just doesn't seem right. It would seem like the friction would lead to pretty rapid belt failure.

Have the folks at the Deutz distributor sent me an extra part, or is this a peculiarity of the Deutz FL4 2011 engines?

Also, while we are on the topic of cooling, if I'm reading it correctly the temp gauge on the machine is marked in unequal increments with the bottom half suggesting the marks are 30 degrees, but the top half suggesting the marks are 40 degrees. Where on that scale do your PT1850s typically run?

I have yet to install the new blower jacket, but when I ran the machine last it was just above the upper middle mark (160-Mark-240). I'm assuming she will cool down a bit with the new blower jacket installed.

I think on some other uses, such as generators, the blower connects to a "fresh air" duct, so sealing matters. It doesn't on the PTs. Since the belt doesn't really move side to side, the wear is minimal. The belt makes a small indentation/wear hole in the gasket, and that's it. I look at it as more of finger guard, albeit, an incomplete one.

There are two rubber gaskets, one that the belt goes through, with the cutout, and one that goes all the way around the cowling. You can see the paint flaking off the latter in the photo below. Here is a side view on my F3L2011 engine. I hope that it helps.

The photos were taken when the 1445 was brand new. That has 15minutes of clock time on it.
The paint is more faded now, but that's another thread.

It makes me want to go buy one new just for the experience of seeing something like that in person.

Ahh, I remember when mine looked like that.... about 17 years ago!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think those gaskets are required in the PT implementation (including the round rubber "gasket" on the fan shroud). You could call PT and ask but I'm pretty sure you can leave it off if desired.

If you mean the piece the belt slips through, mine has it.

I believe it is one of the diffeences between the 1011 and 2011 series deutz

The fan belt gasket is probably optional. My recollection is that the shroud gasket falls into the nice to have category, as the edge of the shroud is sharp, or at least mine is.

All the best, Peter
